(In rogue 1 Vader was killing cannon fodder rebel soldiers who he cared nothing about. In New Hope he was fighting a Jedi Master he had known for years. I doubt he really wanted to kill Obi Wan in the first place).

Good point. Now that I think about it from your perspective, I do sense much conflict in him.
