The documentary, The Social Dilemma, highlights the same things. The interesting thing was that this documentary, to a large extent, was created by the creators of social media platforms. It goes on to describe that, initially, the thoughts behind it were rather altruistic, that is a means for family and friends to communicate and share with each other. However, later, it morphed into something well out of their control. The computer algorithms they developed took over and produced some rather unexpected and harmful effects. The concerns they had were around, "If the genie is out of the bottle, how do you control the genie?" They really haven't come up with a good answer, but clearly, now, programmers are aware of the effects of their algorithms, but how does one company regulate versus another? The Social Dilemma - A Netflix Original documentary

Doomscrolling is related to anxiety and depression? Heavens no!

I think it's kind of weird that more (I guess, younger?) people don't seek out things that actually inspire and motivate them to do things that are at least fun or interest them in their spare time. I used to be one of them as well, and it wasn't a good life, I'll put it that way.
