Saying shocking things

I have a nasty tendancy to say something that gets a shocked response, because what I want to say, has to be said afterwards.

So, the recent happenings in Nice, to be honest, did not get me reacting as most people ( but I do react instantly when animals are mistreated and children. But then, I saw a sort of reinactment and suddenly I felt devastated for what happened. Well, I wanted to share this with a lady I know, but her reaction was utter shock and disgust with me yet, she KNOWS ME WELL and has often told me how kind and loving I am! I went into a mental panic ( because the idea of being disgusted with, is unthinkable). I hated it when she said: Suzanne, how could you say such a thing? But suddenly, unlike the norm, where I flounder and dig even a bigger hole, I did managed to explain that yes, that was my first reaction ( because it is happening too often ie the terrorist attacks and I see the bigger picture), but it did change when I saw the reinactment.

The thing is that we are in a state of Emergency in France and yet, despite that, people died yet again and I am thinking: but in order to put the alert into effect, people should be urged to celebrate in smaller groups? You see, no one learns; they just forget so fast what happened in Paris. But I tell you this, it is not the last, because the UNDERLYNING issue is not solved! Also, the terrorists live in the country that they are attacking!

Anyway, the reason I created the thread, is because this happened to me very recently and I have to say, that I am not in the habit of shocking, but those few times, do get a bad reaction!

I often have bad negative reactions to events where people or animals are hurt. And if I am present I will react. But I will never share my thoughts after the fact or about things I read about etc, with anyone except my wife who knows me well and knows its just my initial over-reaction. We just call it my Italian side. :D (My silly goofiness is my 'Irish side'). I don't tell anyone else because they may misunderstand or have a negative reaction like you shared.

I suspect many of us have those moments on occasion. I know I have. Where you try to say one thing, but it simply comes out another way entirely.

I wish I came across as more shocking. It would be much better than being laughed at all the time.
Once, at work, a customer was talking about the shooting that had taken place near my workplace, and I said, "It's not surprising, considering the strict gun laws around here." And to my surprise, she completely shut up. :flushed: xD I guess she didn't share my views on gun control.
