Saxaphone is named after a person

Yeah, I had no idea about that. I always just assumed it "developed" in that sort of semi-organic way that most cultural items do, same as language, same as the lute developed into the guitar, little additions and spinoffs but not anyone's actual idea, but it is actually the singular invention of a fellow called "Adolphe" Sax.

Let's nevermind that the name "Sax" is discredited as a name for any fictional character who isn't a musician. Or Saxifrage Russel. But he's a special case.

Yep, Adolphe Sax was also the guy who invented the valve system for trumpets that allowed them to be played chromatically.
