Questions regarding collaboration between parents and teachers

Not all of us here fancy ABA.
In fact, many or most of us don't.

Just so you know. This may be why you aren't getting responses?
 
I’m definitely not looking for someone with an ABA degree. Just an average parent of a child with special needs to answer some basic parent/teacher collaboration questions :)

Without prejudice to yourself, because I'm sure your intentions are noble, you should know this.

ABA is seen by a huge proportion of the autistic community as a barbaric practice and an invasion of our essential identities. It is a service performed for parents and educators, not for the autistic person. Those of us who have grown up having been subjected to ABA report childhood trauma which has frequently led to severe mental health issues in adulthood including crippling PTSD. There are high profile campaigns against the use of ABA on autistic people. I am sure your intention is not to cause harm.

I refer you to a report (PDF) recently published by a senior researcher in autism and a significant influencer of policy in autism in the UK, Dr Damian Milton, and a couple of further links that I hope will help you to reconsider the path you have chosen.

On a more encouraging note, perhaps it might be an idea to look at a different, more constructive approach such as Studio 3

I don't know ABA from ABBA, but just to throw in my 2 cents, from observing my special-ed teacher wife, that parent-teacher collaboration is essential. Unless they are all on the same sheet of music often little can be done (ie. what is accomplished every day is destroyed every night).

Probably the wrong site for you Karly. This is a site populated - funny enough - by autistics, not so much parents.
