One nice thing about turntables: I went to work with a friend, and I complained that his shop record player was running fast. He was a pretty fussy guy, so he didn't think he'd own anything like that. I just put a scrap of paper on a record, and we watched it go around almost 36 times in a minute.

BTW, the way old-time disk jockeys got music to start right to the split second was to put the record on a very high-powered turntable, and put a weight on top of it. Then, they'd start the needle in the groove, listening through earphones. When it passed the point they wanted, they'd just grab the rim with finger and thumb, and pull it back until the sound was just right. Then, they'd switch it to on-air, talk, and release the rim.
