Outdated Advice Game

The Silver Bridge at Point Pleasant West Virginia was doomed from square one. It didn't have enough redundancy built into the suspension links and it failed due to stress risers in the links at the swivel pins.
A sister bridge that was local to it was shut down and scrapped as well.
The design was fresh and the weak parts were overlooked.
Some of the bridges that span the Allegheny river that date back to the mid 1920s in Pittsburgh were designed and built by the same outfit, with the difference being multiple links instead of just two to a side.
The Silver Bridge was completed in 1928.

The sister bridge was taken out of service because there was literally no way to service it after it was assembled short of building a support bridge beside it.

It must have been terrifying for those poor people to die like that. Did anyone survive? I don’t remember. There must have been a lawsuit or two as well.

I believe there were 46 that lost their lives.
I'm not sure what the legal ramifications were because I believe the bridge only had a usable life of 30 years from a time when the traffic on it was lighter.

The Mothman sightings were so strange. Nothing like in the movie, of course.

Literally everyone before Starbucks:

"Don't put so much sugar and milk in your coffee, it's not meant to be a sweet drink."

How do you expect to get married by eating like horse with food flying out of your mouth? Thank god my mom didn't shove marriage on me.

Some guys still act that way and it's so dumb. Toughness? Honesty? Integrity? Who cares? You gotta make your drink bitter for no reason to be a man.

If you ever eat liver and get its taste stuck in your mouth, and it makes you retch, go to the pantry and crack open a can of peaches. The syrup will coat your mouth, and the sweet, mellow flavor of canned peaches instantly cancels out the bitterness of liver.

My grandfather gave me the following advice when I asked him advice about swing dancing (Lindy Hop):

It is a very athletic dance. The lady should be much shorter and lighter than the man. She should never wear high heels, nor complete flats. Heels with a one inch rise are best. Make sure that the heels are very comfortable as well, and supportive.

We had a barn local to us that had the remnants of the signage painted on it advertising Hillary Bogdan record hops that were held there in the 50s.

By the time I knew about it in the early 70s, Hillary, a man, was a daytime DJ on the fuddy-duddy old people's radio station that played stuff like 101 Strings and older swing type music.

My Dad used to listen to it day in and day out until I got sick of hearing but then he changed formats to an all country music station that was even worse.
"All my exes line in Texas...."

If you haven't yet this summer, it would be wise to take your woodstove out to the workshop for blacking, before cold weather sets in again.

Waterglassing storebought eggs is possible. But you must replace the natural bloom that was washed off. This is done by coating the egg with a fine layer of lard, before submerging the egg in the lime water.

I don't remember giving any such advice.

I'm still mightily confused. I understand there's a joke in there somewhere but I don't understand it.

“ don’t talk to strangers on the internet” was just my contribution to the game.

Bad joke. I own my mistakes :smilingimp:
