Northern Lights

Good chance to see them for those who have always wanted but live in areas where they seldom appear:

I'm kind of hopeful :-)

I’m hopeful, but the map doesn’t show it going far enough south for me to see it. I’m still going outside to check anyway.

If you see the northern lights, post pictures!

It's been over 32 years since the last time I saw an aurora and that was in march of 1989.

I'm too far south also. Florida.
There is a large solar flare heading our way that will hit Saturday night and into Sunday is the
reason they will be visible greater distances south than usual.

Ol' Sol... are you giving us a trick or treat?

When the magnetic field lines are symetrically curved around the Earth, the aurorae are seen above the artic
and antartic in similiar circles above the poles.
In the north they are called Aurora Borealis. In the south they are Aurora Australis.

I saw some about 10-15 years ago. They weren't bright, vivid ribbons, but large blobs of faint color in the sky. It was the only time I saw northern lights as far south as I am.

Two things I want to see sometime:
I want to see the northern lights, bright and sharp like the popular photographs show.
I want to see a full solar eclipse.

Wouldn't you know, I left the Denver area a few weeks ago. I am disapointed. But I will just have to figure out how to see the northern lights some day.

Not my photo, but had to share as it's stunning, and taken at a place that I'd like to visit someday (it's a popular year-round* day-hike from Vancouver, BC though sometimes done as a two or three day hike to visit other scenery.)
