Intrusive thoughts: imagination vs external image

Concept machine
Has anyone else felt that intrusive thoughts from a topic are more intense than ones from external media? For me, intrusive thoughts from a question cause my anxiety-fueled imagination to go wild and screw with my day-to-day. External images and other media are way easier to deal with because you can take a second, more objective look that makes you realize, "Wait, it's dumb that I feared this," then I go on with my day. You know what I mean?

A question of one of your core values
I agree that intrusive thoughts related to these are much harder to deal with and much more powerful. They seem to truly come from within and that is disturbing to me as well. I did not see my violent intrusive images elsewhere, they came from my own mind. This has troubled me for a long while. The mind is an incredible thing, and sometimes in a really astonishing and unsettling way.

What makes it harder is when after dealing with one topic for so long and creating coping mechanisms that make it easy to deal with; a new topic pops up and then you have to restructure said coping mechanisms while dealing with the new hogwash your brain is buying from your anxiety.
