If Aspies were to have an animal mascot, what would it be?

ADD, ENFP, ASD, and more!
I'm super interested in hearing what interesting ideas you have to share. Any thoughts on animals that share similar traits, tendencies, lifestyles, or other characteristics with us?

My odd sense of humour finds it hard not to propose the following contender to start us off…

THE ASP! (Aspius aspius)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asp_(fish)

Aside from the more commonly known species of snake, the other animal called an asp is a species of freshwater fish. Its Latin name is Aspius aspius which is not only fun to say, but wonderfully apt, I feel.

Fun Facts
  • They are listed on two separate lists as endangered species and are, as such, protected by the Bern Convention of endangered species and habitats. Not sure where us Neurodiverse folk lie on that list…
  • A member of the Family Cyprinidae, Asps are stomachless and have toothless jaws. I know from my own anxiety experiences that my “guts” are not always as present as I’d like them to be!
  • Asps are physostomes, which means that they have special biological components to help with disposing gas and dealing with gut issues. Need I say more about ASD-gut research, oui?
  • A related species is the Minnow, also a part of the Family Cyprinidae. While the word Minnow has come to mean “a person or organization of relatively small size, power, or influence” in the English vocabulary, I’d like to think that Asps, like all the lovely folks at AC, are transcending that definition and showing the world that there is, indeed power, size, and influence in our midst. And a friendly, optimistic, and positive (albeit quirky!) culture that the rest of the world could learn a lesson or two from!

I'm gonna say spiders. People generally avoid spiders, because there are a lot of misconceptions about them, and dealing with them is viewed as unpleasant (partially owing to their unpredictability). However, in actuality, spiders are very misunderstood creatures. They won't attack unless direly provoked or threatened, are not nearly as dangerous as people think, and really want nothing more in life than to be left alone so that they can spin their beautiful webs in peace.

Maybe not all aspies can relate to this, but I sure can - spiders are my power animals. ;)

or anything that's highly developed like so

I'm sticking with my mate Ned the moss (Sphagnum Affine)
Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.

Ned doesn't say much, so he must be pretty wise :D

[QUOTE="Spiller, Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.

Hi Spiller So they say a wise men say little, But smart people like to talk about interesting stuff allot, so does that make smart people fools, or wise men boring?
I like cats as they do better on sailboats, (cat box issue)

Good question.. maybe, they're either ASD (so that's fine), or bigheaded? Arrr ;)
I found Jack Russels the perfect boat dog, only had to rescue mine once.. never had to rescue a cat though, maybe that says something? :D

Hi Spiller yes I like Jack Russels allot have thought of getting one, a great dog. Have heard that terrier group doesn't mix well with cats tho? Dogs are great on a boat, just not so good at goooing ooon the boat if you get what I mean.

Myself, I think it would be my very own Sweetpea, a rescue mutt. She is very sweet, likes to be in the same room as others but is not the least bit touchy-feely, and is quite eccentric. A big bundle of love who doesn't ask for anything in return.

As for Aspies in general...well, we're a pretty diverse group, no? Hard to pick just one there. :D

Hmmm, my spirit animal would be the sloth I think, or a serval. I don't know that one animal would cover all of us :)

I would say the coloured elephant, theres a book i read when i was younger where there was a herd of elephants and one was different. This one elephant had many different colour squares on it, the rest was normal grey. I think the colour squares on the elephant would symbolise the Aspergers puzzle pieces logo. Also that this one elephant was different to rest would also symbolise As being an aspie due to the colours can be like the mind in this book. The colours can be too much to cope with and too much is going on, like the aspie mind in certain situations. So i like to be symbolised as an elephant due to it symbolises this book and can tell this story, also elephants are herbivores, NTs can be carnivores, so that can show we are harmless and anxious around people. Although some of us may have another side of us to protect our selfs, this can symbolise our meltdown or fight in fear/FIGHT/flight. I think elephant sometimes do things at the zoo like push a zookeeper with its trunk. I like to think that as an elephant not meaning to do it, not aware of its own strength so That can symbolise Aspergers by saying things and not meaning it by the way that people think we mean it.

Anyways sorry that this might seem weird but this actually interested me and i had to share my thought about this subject :)

I had a Jack Russel, six cats and six chickens at one time and they all got along fine.
My dog, Roger, had his own little life jacket with a handle on the top that I grabbed with a boat hook the one time he fell in.. I think he loved the swim :D
I guess it depends on the individual animal really.. I used to know a guy whose Terrier loved riding on the tank of his motorbike :D
I haven't taken Ned sailing yet, but he seems quite at peace where he is.. he's a Zen dude

Hey Sass love the cute pic but not the cigaret (allergic). I get the low energy sloth thing, but think we deserve a cuter animal. Maybe a Tasmanian Devil some of use get a little snappy when pressed...Ha ha sorry!

I think I should bump this thread any who it depends on the person how about having people make their own animal mascot and have it as part of your signature or have it like a badge. since every aspie I meet on this site is different how about choosing an animal that is quite complex and has different personalities and different abilities but likes the quiet.
