I Just Can't Believe It!

WTF? I go out all the time with wet hair. It just means I just had a shower and I'm clean. How is that bad???

I couldn't believe my Mama's reaction either! I used to leave the hairdresser with wet hair cause they charge more to blow dry and I usually go home and rewash it again. When I was in the grocery store it was loaded and come to think of it I was the only one with wet hair. Thinking back on it now I can't believe I did it myself. It's not like I just came from a swimming pool. I'm just going to dry my hair from now on cause after this experience I'd definitely feel self conscious.

I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so angry! I have a CD in the bank worth quite a bit of money and got an "URGENT" letter in the mail stating that "since the account has had no activity, you have to send in this statement with your signature by September 15 or the entire account WILL GO TO THE STATE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, CD's are supposed to roll over on their own. Second of all, this account hasn't even expired for me to take any action on it anyway! I told my Ma that I'm just going to put it all into a savings account once it expires. What if that piece of mail got lost and I never received it? All my money would be gone! The banks are now going after people's money because the States are going broke!

Anyone who has any CD's or bonds you better be keeping track of those accounts. I am still in shock. And I tell you something else, when I go down there to sign that paper in person they are going to get a piece of my mind!

Have you changed addresses at all since you established a CD with that financial institution? Are you certain the CD you purchased had a contractual rollover feature to begin with? If not, once the CD matures the bank may wash its hands of the matter. Lousy way to do business IMO...but it happens.

I wouldn't sign or send in anything just yet. Contact your bank directly first...verify this communication is legitimate from the bank first. The CDs I used to have did roll over automatically (but it was spelled out in the contract). Check your paperwork to see that rollovers are in your contractual terms and conditions.

Even if they turned it over to the state as unclaimed property you could still recover it. But you'd have to jump through bureaucratic hoops to do it. (I've done it before. A nightmare, but I'm good at paperwork.) Just don't ever let a third-party recovery firm process unclaimed property like that...do it yourself. They prey on people over such things all the time, by simply perusing online state lists of unclaimed property.

I know people laugh at the news sources I listen to, Judge, but they were saying this was happening. One guy (a lawyer) on the East coast said that he had an account and the statements for the account just stopped coming and when they checked on it the entire account had gone to the State. They were able to sue and get the money back, but a lot of people wouldn't know how to do that, like you said. This has never happened in my entire life. I and my parents have had CD's out entire lives so I know how they work. It's funny the bank is going after one of the larger accounts even BEFORE it expires. I'm not playing those games. And the letter should have come by REGISTERED mail! If it had gotten lost - I don't even know what to think I'm so shocked. The news sources I listen to also said that they will be coming after peoples 401K's as well. I didn't believe it either until it happened to me just now with my CD. The States and the Govt are desperate for money and they will find a way to take it - look up what happened in Cypress. They say the same is going to happen here too.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions until you find out directly through the bank exactly what happened. But yes, any time you commit big money to a bank, you better be aware of the contractual terms to make sure they don't come to bite you back.

I'm going to the bank in person, Judge. If I send it in by mail they could say they didn't get it.

Yes- in person. I certainly would. Request to see a bank officer....not just any teller. Ask them if they are initiating a formal escheatment process.

Here's what you really need to know:

SEC.gov | Escheatment Process

In the meantime I'd go over your CD paperwork to determine what happens if/when your CD matures. You may have been sitting on money that no longer made interest a long time ago. If that time expired, your bank can tender the funds to the state depending on state laws.

With the financial institution I dealt with regarding CDs, it was like pulling teeth to get my money back. They wanted to perpetually roll it over...but then that was a contractual option I was aware of from the start.

Ok. Get this Judge. I went to the bank yesterday with that letter regarding my CD and spoke to a woman (she actually deals in CD's for the bank). She read the letter saying she had never seen anything like it before. She even got a hold of "higher ups" who just told her to tell me to sign the paper and send it in - NO EXPLANATIONS AT ALL!!!!! She couldn't believe it either! She also said she couldn't believe that it wasn't sent registered mail and if I had not sent it in (WHAT IF IT GOT LOST IN THE MAIL?) then I would have lost my money to the State. The "higher ups" said it was a new state law - one that even she couldn't understand. They said my account was "Inactive", but even she said when she looked up the account that it was still in "Active" status. As you know with a CD, you deposit the money and keep it in the account for several years where it accrues interest and you cannot remove the money (without a penalty) or add to the money. The letter said that the account had not had any activity, but it had had TWO deposits which is considered "Activity". I was so mad (not at her) that I actually said "What you are doing is ILLEGAL ACTIVITY! You have not right taking my money and giving it to the State!" The account doesn't even mature until 2016! She AGREED! She wondered how many more letters were sent out because she said they deal with a lot of CD's that people leave in for years and let them just roll over. Even if the account matures and no interest goes into it anymore, the money should still stay in the account. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING!!!!! I know you deal in a lot of stock and things, Judge. Just watch your money. My parents have a lot of CD's too that they're going to have to keep close attention on. Once this CD matures, I'm putting it in a money market account of some kind.

Another thing, I asked if I had lost this money would the bank be liable to put it back in? She said "No" the bank would be out of it and I would have to sue the State. The States are broke! You wouldn't even know if you would get your money back and your normal person (like me) has no idea how to go about suing the State in the first place! I still can't believe it that I could have lost thousands of dollars on an account that isn't supposed to be touched by me in the first place until 2016! People can laugh if they want that I listen to Glenn Beck, but that is where I heard this was happening in the first place. The States are so broke they are stealing money from the people through any loopholes they can find.

Wow. That's not escheatment. That's just bureaucratic incompetence. I hope this isn't a large corporate financial institution. Then again I can think of a few I would never deal with for similar screwups.

If it were my account, once it matures I'd never do business with that entity again. Scary...

It's a big bank, but we have CD's in other banks and haven't received any letters from them. That lawyer on the East Coast said he never received a letter - just stopped getting statements on a regular savings account. I don't think it's going to be isolated to just CD's. I have also stopped contributing to my 401K.

I lost it. I mean I lost it. The guy that trimmed the tree out back and ruined it was knocking on my door asking to get in to trim more off of the tree! It was either come through my place or use a really long ladder outside. I let him in because I didn't want him to fall off the ladder, but I couldn't stop myself. I was so mad that I just let him have it. I said he had cut too much off and ruined it! The tree is never going to be the same! Then I told him I heard he was going to keep a dead tree out in front of a condo that belonged to a Board members mother! I said he better be cutting all the trees and not giving preferential treatment to certain people or I'm really going to come after him! He said the tree wouldn't die - it would grow better, but there's nothing there anymore! I was so mad I told him to get out and slammed the door when he left. Now I can't stop crying. I'm just so tired of how the Board runs this place. Sarah, the president, didn't want to have to pay for the trees to get trimmed every couple of years so she told Jim to cut them so they wouldn't have to be trimmed again for at least 6 yrs! He cut them alright. Now I have no shade, no privacy, NOTHING! I pay my damn HOA dues and they aren't cheap! They should have hired a specialist - not some idiot who doesn't even know how to cut trees! I don't regret one damn thing I said to him! Not one! Someone needed to tell him what a crappy job he did! He's so busy kissing Sarah's ass he doesn't care who else he upsets. I'm tired of being "nice" to these people because it seems to get me no where. I must have really lost it because it doesn't appear that he cut anymore off of the tree. I don't care. If me getting mad and "losing it" saved some of my tree, I'd do it all over again. I'm so mad that I still can't stop crying. I hate that about myself. I feel like I don't have control over anything anymore.

They ruined my tree.

Nobody respects the trees. A real Lorax would be nice, mustache and all. My grandfather had to cut nearly every tree off his property because of some stupid beetles and we all hated it. He's planting some nice fruit trees and other kinds to cover the baldness. I hope they let you put a pretty tree back in. Given how much they hate normal trees, maybe one of those skinny little gingko trees. Or at least, one old gingko my granddad has couldn't be more than five feet in diameter at its widest point.

I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!

I always wondered what was wrong with those people that drove around with their gas cap door thingies wide open. Omg. I just can't believe it! I went to wash and wax the car and it was looking fine. I'm driving down the street and I'm wondering 'why is it that I can hear sounds from the outside? all the windows are shut.' I look in the back and the back window is WIDE OPEN! What's worse is I had a 12 pack of Cottonelle toilet paper (my favorite brand) just sitting right there for all to see! Let me tell you I had to drive slow to a place where I could pull over otherwise my 12 pack of toilet paper would have ended up on the street! And why didn't someone say something? What's worse is that someone could have run up to my vehicle and stole my Cottonelle toilet paper! So now all of the people during rush hour know that I use Cottonelle toilet paper. Oh my.

Hey, better Cottonelle than a corncob! :p

I can't believe it's been ten hours since my last meal and I'm still not hungry. Oh well, my appetite does this at times. I'll eat everybody out of house and home, probably because I ate the house itself, and then I won't eat again for ages. Perhaps there's more to that "you are a snake in the Chinese zodiac" than meets the eye...?

I Can't Believe It! I used to really like reality shows like the "Housewives" of whatever county. Then I was sitting there one day and figured out that I was wasting my own life watching these other bimbos live their life. I stopped watching that very day. That's time I'm never going to get back!

its all just American propaganda anyways its all fake fake I say

You are so right! Thanks for pointing that out.

Come to think of it, I used to throw out corn cobs for the squirrels to eat. I hope my neighbors didn't think I was using corncobs instead of toilet paper! Crap!
Those poor squirrels... Why you give your used corncobs to those poor fuzzy-tailed rats?
