Hello all,

I am a graduate student at Hamline University in Minnesota. My group and I are conducting a research study to find specific needs of the ASD community.

We've created a short survey to help find these needs and submissions are completely anonymous. If you'd like to be updated on results of the survey feel free to reach out.

The survey will be open for the next 2 weeks then I will need to submit our findings. I would sincerely appreciate the help in supporting the community with hearing the opinions on our questions. Thank you!!

Note:
"...you must either receive or want to receive Autism Spectrum Disorder treatment services to take the survey."
Quote from body of linked survey.

Some questions pertain to potential services currently offered as well as potential new services (including packages). You can complete the survey without having any services, answers would then be taken as desire for such potential new services. Let me know if you have any questions!

That is not how I interpret this:

Question #1

Do you or the individual(s) you care for currently receive or want to receive Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) treatment services?

Yes
No

Sorry, you must either receive or want to receive Autism Spectrum Disorder treatment services to take the survey.
Have a great day!
Please close your browser window to end the survey.

Now that's a quick survey.
You're welcome buddy.

Looking into the survey, that prompt shows up after the screening question "Do you or the individual(s) you care for currently receive or want to receive Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) treatment services?"

The answers to this question are Yes or No with selecting No bringing you to the screen you've shown. The survey is designed for needs of the ASD community based on things like potential services that can be provided or understood.

If you would like to select "yes" instead of "no" to this question try the link again, if the message persists, try a different browser. Let me know if there's anything I can do!

Haha it can be quite short based on answers selected! However, for my graduate study, I am only allowed to use the data from surveys with every question completed. :(

It didn't like it when I wanted to post that I was 298 years old either

Having that screen when selecting No entirely defeats the purpose of the question and your survey. It would seem you and your Associates haven't thought this through, if at all.

The answers, rather, should be along the lines of "Yes, I am/They are currently receiving services" and "No, I am/They are currently not, but would be open to services in the future" and continuing on with the survey after hitting Next rather than a "oh, sorry, only those who want to receive services can do our survey."

I suggest, if you want this survey to be successful, to go back to the drawing board and fix this, because you won't get many positive results otherwise.

If you really wanted to encourage participation you could provide a free donut voucher to those who complete the survey. You know what they say. Donuts talk, thank yous walk. :D

Unfortunately due to perimeters set within this study, I am unable to provide any compensation. The study is set to help people who would like to share their voice in assisting the ASD community with needs that may or may not currently be provided.

Donuts sound amazing though. I wish I could provide them as I'd enjoy them myself :)

Thank you for your input! The point of our screening questions are to screen those who's data will assist this research. Having an initial Yes/No questions about current services being received or desired helps the the goal of this study.

That's... not how surveys work...

You say you want to also have data from those who don't have Services already

Some questions pertain to potential services currently offered as well as potential new services (including packages). You can complete the survey without having any services, answers would then be taken as desire for such potential new services. Let me know if you have any questions!

Yet, when you select No to currently receiving services, the survey ends. So, tell me, do you want data from everyone, including those who don't have services already but are interested, or just those who're currently receiving services? Because it seems you really only want results from the latter which will impede your survey greatly, as that'd make it one sided, and as I understand it, one sided surveys tend to be utterly useless.

OK.
What you could do is rewrite the question so that it's not double barreled.

There are 2 questions being asked:
Do you or the individual(s) you care for currently receive or want to receive Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) treatment services?

A. currently receive
B. want to receive

There should be two separate questions.

I am not going to answer "yes" to that original question if one of situations I'd be affirming does not exist.

The question "Do you or the individual(s) you care for currently receive or want to receive Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) treatment services?" has the Yes/No answer.

Selecting Yes indicates that you currently receive services or have a desire to potentially receive services.

Selecting No indicates that you do not receive any services and do not have a desire to receive any services. This answer screens the surveyor out of the survey as they have indicated that they do not receive any services or wish to.

I agree, if you wanted to select yes. Per our requirements we need screening questions to eliminate those who do not wish to receive services, have services, or won't aid in obtaining the required data. Therefore we are required to have questions like this which allow an exit for an outcome.

Then make the questions separate.

Your question is affecting people this way:
Example:
Do you or the individual you care for have a pony or want to receive a pony on your next birthday?

This is an impossible question, logically.

If I have a pony, I'd answer yes to the first part.
If I don't, I'd answer no.

I might want to get a pony for my birthday.
If I wanted one, I'd answer yes to the second part.
If I didn't, I'd say no.

But if I had no pony and I said yes (because I wanted one) then I'd be lying (not telling truth.)

Substitute 'treatment services' for pony.

Correct, the double barrelled question doesn't allow the user to specify whether they 1) receive services or 2) want to. Instead, it groups them together in a similar pool for data purposes. Questions beyond the initial "screening" questions go into further detail into services received/desired.

So, if a person checks yes then the next page is:

The minimum number of checks is 1.
From the list below please select all the services currently being utilized by you or the person you care for.

Physical Therapy

Family Therapy / Sibling Group

Psychological Therapy (MD, PMHNP)

Behavior Therapy (ABA, Floor time, Denver, Son Rising, etc)

Occupational Therapy

Social Groups

Feeding Therapy

Dietician

Play Therapy

Speech Language Therapy

There is no option for the person who wants services but is receiving none.

It doesn't look as if this survey is ready to be launched.
