Hello Everyone

Oh man, it's been so long since I made one of these. I've been getting a little dissatisfied with my present social outlets. I don't know nearly enough oddballs in meatspace, and of those I do, I am usually at a loss as to thinking up excuses to hang out. I am also an alcoholic. I did not fall off the wagon first time I went to a bar after I started my recovery (almost never drank in bars anyway or anywhere at all public) but it was still a lot of added stress with hardly any payoff. It did make me want to drink, so after a while I had to give up meeting with that group. Most of my interaction has always been online anyways, but lately many of the sites I frequent are kinda...dry. Empty. I got here from an article on tvtropes.com. Such a time sink that one, lol. I think I've fulfilled the required amount of rambling.

Hi, as a person who also suffered/suffers from addiction/alcoholism and has aspergers, different 12 step groups helped me thru some rough patches. Most of there ideals are based on acceptance and there's always some good people there if you show up. People will even approach you to talk if you go hide in a corner and say nothing.

My personal beliefs cause me to feel out of place in the 12-step programs I'm aware of locally. I don't know if I'm allowed to say what they are specifically, but I'm not satisfied by the "build-your-own" sort of compromises worked out by these groups. There are more compatible groups out there, but I don't know if there are any locally. I don't believe so, and haven't found any through the internet. I've also got terrible social anxiety, so that probably doesn't help either. I've had encounters with people which were very traumatic and I wonder sometimes if I can even heal from them properly. What's more is I just plain don't want to hang out in bars and watch other people get drunk. It's really kind of dull.

Hi & welcome

Thank you both for the kind words and the welcome

Thank you :)
Are you enjoying the site so far? It has it's slow and super busy times, but in all its a pretty great group around here and busy enough with forums and the chat room usually.

Yes, I am enjoying it a lot. It's rare that I use chatrooms on a forum, but everyone seems very nice

Ancusmitis, I have 24+ years of sobriety. Let me share that what happens in the rooms, stays in the rooms. If you want to stay sober you can not be around those that still drink...This may mean new friends, new support system, etc. depends just how serious you are about staying sober. I want to say congratulations on your sobriety, welcome to AC and the very best of wishes...

Thank you! Yes, I know what you mean. I've had to quit my whole political party. It wasn't a very big one, though, and nobody there really did anything substantial. Besides, bureaucracies like that aren't really my thing anyway. Sadly, the other interests I've pursued in meatspace haven't panned out either....

Thanks tree! That wouldn't happen to be you, would it? OR is it the tree from Green Greens (Kirby's Dream World)?
