As I've said, while every fanbase will have the aggressive and 'toxic' members who want to do nothing but get angry and be absolute idiots, those people are the minority.
The majority of fans got incensed by the 2016 movie before it even came out because they didn't want a reboot in the first place - they wanted Ghostbusters 3 and had been wanting it for a long time, with plans for the movie dating back to 1999; put simply, the fans wanted to see the old team back together again.
If you watch the Midnight Edge videos on Ghostbusters 2016 (which I can't link here as the narrator and/or some of the sources they link to use bad language, which under the rules can no longer be linked to the forum), they go into detail about the 2016 reboot and why it flopped.

So, I'll compensate here by showing you where the videos are (and in what order to watch them) without linking. Be aware, it's a good few hours worth of video so watch them when you get some free time to go over them in detail. (Title (Date Released - Runtime))
