I don't like sudden, loud bangs, but it's ok if I'm at a distance. I like to watch them through the window. My dog is terrified, though.

They aren't well regulated where I live, and every year there are people injured with them. Also, kids have these small ones that make a sudden very loud bang which they set off in the street, which means I'm housebound during New Year and Easter.

This past Independence Day, we went out on a bridge overlooking the river, where the fire dept was shooting fireworks off of a barge. It was really pretty.

Other than the beauty of a show, I don't, however, care very much for fireworks. They cause so many forest fires.

July 4 is pretty much the impetus of fire season. Doofers think "Duh, I'm gonna go out in da forest and light off fireworks under da twees. What a great idea I had."

And then boom, the very next day, dozens of forest fires are reported in the news. Every single year. And fire crews are battling these blazes until early November.

I think we need new traditions. Something big and special and meaningful, that doesn't harm ecosystems.

People let off fireworks here. Every year. I used to get scared when it started and think it was guns firing, even though guns are, pretty much, banned here. It's really difficult to get a gun licence here, for the most part.

I've never seen them, the fireworks, that is, but, I hear them every year. They may be illegal in Australia , but illegality doesn't stop people around here, doing whatever they please.
