Father: Autistic 5-year-old dropped off at wrong bus stop

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. ? A Gwinnett County father tells Channel 2 Action News his 5-year-old son, who suffers from Autism, was found wandering in an apartment complex parking lot Monday after the first day of school.

"The daycare, Great Beginnings, called and said my son never showed up," Raja Antone said.

Antone said he called the school, Sugar Hill Elementary in Gwinnett County, demanding answers.

At the same time, two teenagers found Harrison Antone and took him to adults.

Harrison had gotten off his bus at the wrong stop. Antone said his teacher put the wrong ID tag on him indicating his bus stop.

Sabrina Walker said she looked through the boy's bags and found his mother's phone number.

"I called her and told her, 'I have your son. He's safe. He's at my house and I'll keep him safe until you arrive.' She was so confused, because her son was supposed to be at daycare. She started crying and was very upset," Walker said. "The mother came into the house crying and hugging everybody. She was very emotional."

Channel 2's Dave Huddleston contacted Gwinnett County Public Schools and they said they have made some changes, and Harrison will now have a buddy that goes to the same day care ride the bus with him, and he will also sit right behind the driver.

District officials also said they changed the original bus driver from that route.

All I can say is wow. Fail teacher, I wonder how she feels. That kid was lucky, glad this ended how it did.
 
Teachers should take all necessary precautions to ensure the kid is safe home. In addition, parents can try to minimise mistakes by choosing to drive kids to and from school themselves.

Other than this, I am also happy the kid is back home.
 
The world is not as dangerous as sensational newscasts would have you believe.
Having said that, it still was a mistake that shouldn't have happened.
