Just lately my dad was in our local Golden hospital for treatment for pneumonia, which upon closer investigation of his heart, turned out to be a heart attack also (fluid in his lungs). When visiting the hospital, I weaved my way through a couple of twists and turns past the nursing office and to the emergency room. One time I had to go home and get his medication vials and when I arrived back, I lost my way to the emergency room. Everything looked like a maze of halls that went nowhere. Easily distracted by all that was around me, I completely lost track of a simple turn that led to the emergency room not far from the nursing office.

The big hospital in Kamloops was worse. It took many times to finally see where the therapy room was. I often had to go by sound and had to peek through. Yes! There they were!! My group and the facilitator were there.

Has anyone had similar experiences?

ME!!!!! Don't feel too bad. I think hospitals are designed that way to keep patients from escaping.

Sorry about your Pa, Rob. Hope everything turns out ok.

I though hospital architects had simply figured out a way to fold space? They're bigger on the inside… :D

Yes. I can get lost very easily, inside unfamiliar buildings (houses even) and outside on the streets.

I can't find my way out of a paper bag. Our closest hospital has been added on to so many times it is crazy, and it is really 3 hospital tied together by corridors only on a few floors.

Yes, but I still love hospitals, not sure why. I loved spending time in hospitals since childhood. When I was a kid, I was dreaming about ending up some place where I wasn't supposed to be and discover something amazing :) whatever that amazing thing would be. I spent a lot of time in hospitals and sometimes still have dreams about wondering around long hallways, talking to doctors, seeing all kinds of patients with all kinds of conditions... :) but yeah, somehow, even with signs I end up getting lost sometimes :)

I can get lost pretty much everywhere. One lab building, where I did an internship, was designed like a sort of circle (both up and down stairs), and it took a month for the lay-out to make sense to me.

I get lost easily. I've never understood the layout of hospitals - they always confuse me. I still get baffled by the layout of the local hospital in my area even though I've been there so many times.

When I first started at my school, it was like a maze and the layout confused me. It has huge grounds and lots of separate buildings (it's a boarding school). I had to be taken everywhere by my classmates until I understood its layout.
