Change the Story

The Hassle in Toronto by Horace Walpole

A gothic romp in the streets of a Canadian City

*okay this was a bit of a stretch, and somewhat obscure reference, but I could not stop myself*

Well, that was aimed inside my strike zone, so I've gotta swing. The best reference I can make is "The Dead," the last essay in "The Dubliners." I was lucky to see the stage version in The Court theater in Chicago. That production was stunning. So, did I strike out or hit a homer?

Well, sort of? I was referencing Ulysses and the play inspired by a portion of the novel 'Ulysses in Night Town', that and Ulysses is set in the time frame of a single day.

Getting to see the play you wrote about is a home run in my book.

You're expecting us not to know the first Gothic novel ever written? switch the frst two letters in the city and change the second o to an a, and you get the place.

Stalking the Nightwear by Harlan Ellison

The long dark night of a soul looking for a decent pair of pajamas

Shouldn't that be

Stocking the Nightwear

If I had thought to change the title to that, I would have said it was about a bored employee at a lingerie store who was looking for something more than making sure that the nightwear was fully represented. I do like it though. ;)

The Eclectic Pool-Aide Acid Test by Tom Wolfe

The crazy antics of a group of swimming pool maintenance dudes

I defer to the master! :p

Harry Putter

An orphan boy lives with his abusive aunt and uncle. A huge caddy tells him the truth: his parents were pro golfers and he should join the golf club at the local boarding school. As Harry makes friends like Hermione Grasser and Ron Woodsley and hones his skills he realizes going pro is his ticket out of his home life, but everyone expects him to live up to his birth parents and he just isn't them. Worse, Mr. and Mrs. Putter ruined ex-champion Voldriver's career when they exposed his connections to match-fixing gangs, and he wants revenge. He's in prison at first, but his lawyer Peter Pitchingwedge gets him out halfway through and he has that gang stalk Harry and friends.

An 18-book series.
