I know that many autistic people here also have depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or anxiety disorder. while taking drugs I had depression and anxiety disorder and my aunt advised me to go to church. I find it stupid. Like how it can help? God please cure me and wow magic im okay! just kiddin. i know that faith helps many people in difficult sitiations. but isnt it just escaping from the problem? just like drugs? religion is the opium for people? So, i want to know what do you think about that. But only without insults for religios people.

Believing in a higher power is helpful for a lot of people. I suppose it gives them purpose - and something to work towards. I guess you're never alone if you believe a deity is all seeing and watching over all of us.

I enjoy history - and so my views on religion are biased by the wars, massacres and genocides commited under the name of religion.

Personally, I find books more of a comfort. Learning and bettering myself that way.

If you're open minded and like to ponder ideas that go beyond science and religion, I recommend the Seth books by Jane Roberts. If you start with The Eternal Validity of the Soul. If you Google the title and include the term PDF, I believe there's several sites where you can read a free copy.

I’m not “ religious” in that I do not follow organised religion, or go to church, yet I firmly believe there is a creator, spirituality helps me a lot.

Everyone can find themselves at ease when being part of a warm community. Some religious communities are like that, and cults too.

If a person happen to be a believer, they will find church to be a warm and welcoming place, and connecting with other people will undoubtedly help with depression and anxiety. As an atheist, I know it would do nothing for me.

Finding a community or place to be part of is what can help with depression and anxiety, I believe. Church is just the specific case for religious people. Some people will find the same sense of meaning doing community service, like teaching young kids for free or helping the homeless; people more fond of arts may find it in poetry slams and book clubs; etc.

I can't talk for everyone, but leaving religion helped me with my struggles with depression. The one benefit of religion I noticed was the sense of community it offered. But I can find that elsewhere. I guess the sense of structure could be a benefit too, but I wasn't a fan of the content of that structure.

I started in Protestant Christianity and I explored more widespread Abrahamic religion from there. As I was questioning it all I dabbled with other common religions on a surface level, but nothing really enticed me more than what I was already leaving. I know I could dig in deeper if I chose to, but I don't feel like I have a reason to anymore.

I'd rather not journey into the rabbit hole of what I dislike about the content, if that's okay.

Christianity is classified as a religion ,but Yeshua transliterated Hebrew for the anglicised version Jesus ,hated religion, he is very personal ,not far off his physical body still exists but not on planet earth ,but his spirit is still on the earth, there is a saying people don't say there is no G-d (I leave out the o because people use his name disrespectfully and I don't like that I wouldn't want somebody using my name as a curse word)instead they say no to G-d.
Wars begin because humans like to destroy for instance the national socialist party in Germany not! Christian ! hated everything not aryan Judaism,Homosexuals,Jehovah's witnesses, real non anti-Semitic Christians, the Roma people(crude name Gypsy),members of the resistance from every country ,that they caught, mentally ill people, mentally challenged people, apart from being anti all this ,they were plain greedy.

I am a believer in the living God , Jesus Christ , the ten commandments and the Bible. Not a church goer. Simple read the Bible.

I have found great comfort and help in my faith. Especially in hard times. Sickness, depression, anger, and understanding life.

Also like history.

There is a distinction between religion and spirituality. A spiritual community may well provide some relief from depression, as aside from exercise, the most important thing for dealing with mental illness is a group of positive and supporting friends. Here is something from New Thought.
Meditation
Affirmation
Prayer
Service
Education
Tithing
