Autism and Schizotypal Disorders

I was reading a report on the link between autism and schizotypal disorders. The article said there is a quite an overlap. The trouble is they do not DX kids w personality disorders because they are so young.

A few places suggest that these two disorders are linked. I have A LOT of magical thinking and disassociate, but I have lots of trauma.

When this whole autism hit me, I was already 14!! Some symptoms before but exploded at 14. Then it was all about not being able to eat and drifting away from humanity, being in my own world, hyper and not able to stop moving, writing, reading and struggling to get through my days.

I have some of the things, but not all. Or maybe I do?

I find the long articles hard to read but I want to understand.

Can someone please post the straight skinny on the differences between Autism and Schizoptypal?

i want to know to okrad, the only difference i could tell you is age onset-autism is viewed from childhood [but as we know its from birth] and i guess with personality disorders like the schizo* types they appear from teen onwards as the persona takes a while to alter and stabilize.
i believe i have one of the schizo* types or schizophrenia itself as i score highly on the PANSS test carried out by a shrink but they never gave me a label, the social services learning disability specialist team think my autism causes those symptoms,so im confused like you to about the differences.

It is baffling because there is such an overlap. Mine "showed up" at 14, but I headbanged a lot as a child and was too hyper to even sit for a story. But htem age 5-14, things seemed OK.

Makes me so depressed.

you say 5-14 yrs things seemed ok,but that could be because your parents didnt recognise the low grade symptoms of HFA and have a clouded view of you when they look back, a lot of parents do.
how were you with sensory issues as a toddler and as a child?

If you're not obsessed over these thoughts do yourself a favour and just forget about it. None of this stuff will be enlightening to you nor will it serve a purpose to you. This may seem blunt but as someone whose pretty much was wondering the same things about a year ago, it doesn't do you any favours. All you're going to get is more questions, questions that can't be answered by you or anyone else here because we're not professionals.

Unless you're in talks with a psychiatrist or someone similar whose also wondering the same thing, it's just not worth the time.

Well I am concerned because I would be afraid if my magical thinking was schizotypal. That would bleed into how I felt about God which is a a lot of magical thinking. So it's important on that level, but you are right........diagnoses in ten years will be all different and represent physical findings so all this is more philosophy right now. I guess you are right. Best to let it go.

That is so hard to tell. I did bang my head a lot into pillows and cried every Christmas from overstimulation and could not sleep anywhere but my own bed. I had to go to bed early when my siblings got to stay up. But when I went to school, there appeared to be no trouble. That is what is odd. Maybe because it was all structured and organized?
