Asperger to Asperger housekeeper/personal assistant.

I'm a 25M who was recently diagnosed with Asperger's, and it's been a real eye-opener for me. The daily stress, the burnout, and the emotional toll of it all can be a lot.

It's made me think a lot about how helpful it would be to have someone in your corner who truly understands. I've been considering the idea of offering my help to others in our community, acting as a kind of personal assistant or a live-in companion to assist with the day-to-day things—the cooking, the cleaning, and just being there to help manage the overwhelming moments.

I'm really passionate about this idea, and I'm wondering if it's worth pursuing as a career. Do you think there's a real need for a job like this?

Depending on what country you live in there's all sorts of legal requirements you have to meet in order to be able to do that. In Australia you'd need to be certified in working with vulnerable people and also working with children and a current police full background check.

Aside from that there's a lot of demand for professional carers these days.

Possibly but I would imagine the pay would be rather low. Most "caregiver" roles are not well-paid, and, as Outdated said, you would need to meet requirements, depending on where you live.

I mean, if you're thinking you are going to be someone's roommate type thing, that would be fine, but that person would have to be able to afford to have you living with them. So... someone who needs daily services would probably not have the funds to be able to afford a live-in.

Plus, there's more than just cooking/cleaning. There's bathing, toileting, dressing, etc. Lots to think about.

It's worth investigating, @Tachyonade. If and when I become the guardian for my autistic nephew, I would like to find someone on the spectrum who can drive and cook to live in his home with him to help him in exchange for free room and board in that house. I'd control the money to pay all expenses. It's a large house so it would be fine if the caregiver also has a grown autistic child who could live there, too.

Absolutely is.

In my area you'd look for "disability support worker" or "peer support worker, developmental disability" jobs.

I have read about how some people with an ASD who can live independently but need support, they will hire or negotiate some kind of "supportive roommate" arrangment - depending on everyone's preferences snd needs this can be formal paid employent as a live-in-caregiver or something a bit more informal (contracts are still encouraged) like offering to rent the supportive roommate a spare bedroom in exchange for not money but a bit of support

I seriously considered this, (not as the supporter but the supported)!but there are some major problems with this for me:

1. For how much support I need, free rent would be waaaaaay too little compensation. And if I had the money to hire a support workernI would choose to hire one who did not live with me.

2. I am not a good judge of people (at least not right away) and would likely be exploited...

I have often thought it would ideal to create and autistic support network, could be volunteer or paid..but would be hard, def beyond my ability

My idea is more like a housekeeper for very independent people with Asperger, not an official caregiver. More like a little extra help that doesn’t require a diploma — something like a housekeeper who also helps you stay motivated or reminds you to take it easy when you are in burnout. Those kinds of things. I’m not a caregiver, only a helper.

My idea was to charge 800 or 600 euros a month, since I will be living there. For me it’s not so much about the money, but more about the peace of having a stress-free job. In my free time I can draw and pursue other goals.

I’m based in Romania but I’m willing to travel for the right arrangement.
Do you know any sites where to post my services? I'm still karmafarming at reddit and not many autism forums with lots of people exist maybe pay for an ad?

You can create e-commerce at wordpress.

I started looking into e-commerce around 2019 after Corona Forced me to stay home. Nothing worked for me except c-panel that is unethical platform, but it helped me get an overview.

Around 2025 July i got wordpress website for 100 euro pr. year on Premium Plan. Wordpress also has more expensive Business Plans and such. You could make a e-commerce online as an Entrepeneur. 40% of the websites there use Wordpress.

My definition of an Entrepeneur is the middle man/woman between Workforce and Customer.

@Mary Terry give me a like, please 😝😁

Edit:
WordPress.org is the free, self-hosted, open-source software that gives you full control and customization, while WordPress.com is a fully hosted, managed service offering plans that include hosting, maintenance, and support, but with less customization and more restrictions, especially on the free plan. The choice depends on your technical skill, need for control, and budget: use .org for maximum flexibility and customizability, and .com for ease of use and managed services.

Here's a breakdown of the key differences:

WordPress.org (Self-hosted)

  • Hosting: You must find and pay for a separate web hosting provider and register a domain name.

  • Cost: The software is free, but you'll pay for hosting, domain, and any premium themes or plugins you use.

  • Customization: Offers complete freedom to install any theme, plugin, and customize your site extensively.

  • Responsibility: You are responsible for site maintenance, security updates, and backups.

  • Monetization: You have full control and can monetize your site as you wish.

  • Support: Support comes from your hosting provider and the WordPress.org community forums.
**WordPress.com (Managed) **
  • Hosting:
WordPress.com provides and manages the hosting for you, with different paid plans.

  • Cost:
Offers a limited free plan, with paid plans providing access to more powerful features.

  • Customization:
Limited customization on lower-tier plans; full plugin and theme customization is available on higher-tier plans (like Business/eCommerce).

  • Responsibility:
WordPress.com handles the technical aspects, including hosting, security, and updates for your site.

  • Monetization:
Monetization options are restricted on free plans, with limitations on ad networks and other tools.

  • Support:
Provides dedicated support resources, with premium support available on paid plans.
Which to choose?

  • Choose WordPress.org if:
You want full control, advanced customization, and have some technical comfort or are willing to learn.

  • Choose WordPress.com if:
You want a hassle-free experience, are less technical, and prefer that someone else manages the technical details of your website.

I would call what you suggest "caregiver" so I suspect I am having a bit of a language issue here...or maybe it is a cultural thing?

In Canada, what you describe would likely be called "home care" services -- if it was strictly housekeeping then maybe not, but with anything beyond that it would be. (And in many situations even just doing housekeeping for someone because of neurodevelopmental disability like Asperger's is considered "home care".

Where I live there is a service to help people manage medications; Even if someone comes to your house for only 5-10 minutes once a day to make sure you take medications, they have to have training and have passed a criminal record or full police background check.

Going a private route, it may not matter if you have a degree - be aware though that many people will ask about your experience/credentials and may also ask you to consent to a criminal record check or full police background check .

If I was thinking about hiring you (or anyone) for the job you propose, I would not care if you had a degree, only that you could demonstrate skill and understanding of certain things. And I would ask you (or anyone) to consent to a full background police background check.
