A Humorous Incident At My Past Job

I was remembering a time from my past job when I decided to do what came natural to do instead of acting timid and introverted. It was during COVID and someone was posted up front to take everyone's temperature when they came in. When the guy went to put the thermometer to my head he nonchalantly said "Let me shoot you". When he pulled the trigger on the electronic thermometer, I acted like he literally shot me complete with backwards jerk from imaginary impact. The poor guy thought that he had really harmed me with the thermometer somehow and just about freaked out. When I burst out laughing, he realized I was ok, caught my play on his wording, and started laughing himself. We would laugh about it when I came through to have my temperature checked for a while afterwards.

Do you know about the book "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine"
by Gail Honeyman?
After reading about your life for a while here on the forum, when I started reading that book, somehow my brain was thinking about you a lot. I didn't finish the book yet, and without spoiling I can't exactly explain why you and the main character woman have the same vibes in my opinion. Maybe you would like to read it one day, who knows.

Wishing you and your horses all the best :)

@Tired I don't recall ever hearing of it. I suppose I should at least Google it and find out the basics of what it's about.

The few times that happened to me during the pandemic, I recall a man much older than myself with a digital thermometer, and for whatever reason I blurted out in a very deep voice, "You may fire when ready, Gridley."

The man burst out laughing...while I waited for him to compose himself and shoot me.

We both survived. :p

We never had any of that in Adelaide. My state did a hard border closure so we had a lockdown for a few weeks until the government knew where it was at regarding public safety, after that we had to wear masks and log in at every business we visited for the sake of contact tracing if we had an outbreak. That lasted 6 months.

The border closure lasted 2 years and during that time it was a real holiday atmosphere here, we had the place to ourselves instead of being swamped by tourists all the time.

Thank you for talking about this book. I did not know about it. I just downloaded it from my library. I hope it has some happy moments in it. I know realistic stories are like life and bad things happen but I would like some nice things in the book too.

Maybe you will like it, it counts as one of those "life affirming and giving hope" books. Exactly something which most of us need in these trying times :)
