How to cope with disruptive peers in school lessons

I couldn't agree more. I happen to work with Tim at home, but the school has people supporting the other kid too and they need to help him too. I wouldn't want Tim to have to isolate himself to get away from this kid, and I wouldn't want the kid to have to be sent out either. Tim is trying a...

How to cope with disruptive peers in school lessons

Hi, Thanks for that, that's helpful. I should have explained, I don't actually work in the school, I work at home with Tim for an hour a week, generally on anxiety management and social skills. I was coming at things from that perspective of helping him to cope with the disruption. I totally...

How to cope with disruptive peers in school lessons

Hi all, I work with teenagers with Aspergers. I come on here from time to time for advice from you guys. So, I'm working with a guy (I'll call him Tim), he's doing his GCSEs, he's pretty independent and has good friends. The difficulty he's having is with coping with school peers who disrupt...

    Aspergers Syndrome/ Asperger/ Asperger's Syndrome?? Any preferences?

Well yes, that is another complication, I don't think the ICD-10 has followed suite yet, although it probably will.

    Aspergers Syndrome/ Asperger/ Asperger's Syndrome?? Any preferences?

That's sensible, that leaves me with Asperger's Syndrome. I think technically it would be 'Disorder', but I don't like that and academics never use it. Yes indeed. My understanding is it was a clinical/academic decision based on the theory that Asperger's is on a spectrum with autism, rather...

    Aspergers Syndrome/ Asperger/ Asperger's Syndrome?? Any preferences?

Yeah... Some people have strong preferences over specific wordings. Personally it wasn't something I had considered as important but I thought I'd better check before I just went for 'Asperger's Syndrome'. Thanks for replying

    Aspergers Syndrome/ Asperger/ Asperger's Syndrome?? Any preferences?

I'm writing a thesis (about counselling and Aspergers). My supervisor just pointed out that most charities are using the word 'Asperger' not 'Asperger's'... Does anyone have an opinion on which is best to use? Thanks, Steph

Was anyone else ever terrified about death? Any advice?

Thanks Tom, That makes sense. Anxiety and phobias I've got experience with (I'm a counselling psychologist), but sometimes things come up that I really need some Aspie insight on. Sometimes no amount of training is as good as just asking the advice of people with first hand experience :)...

Was anyone else ever terrified about death? Any advice?

I think you're probably spot on! With other anxieties I'd suggest a mixture of talking about it (working out if the worries are justified, seeing what we could do to make whatever it is more manageable) and distraction. I'm not sure what the best approach is with this one - coming to terms...

Was anyone else ever terrified about death? Any advice?

Thanks for replying. Good question, he knew about death in terms of family & others who have died. And he sometimes finds it sad when characters in films die - if he liked them. I guess he hadn't thought about it in relation to himself before? Agreed, I think he's still getting his head...

Was anyone else ever terrified about death? Any advice?

Thanks for replying Donn, it's good to have some other ideas to think about. I haven't been able to talk to him about it yet (but should do tomorrow) so I'm not sure exactly what he's thinking about. I know I won't be able to go in and make the idea of death Ok, but it's still good to have...

Was anyone else ever terrified about death? Any advice?

Help! I work with a 17 year old guy who has just been diagnosed with epilepsy. Long story, but someone at college told him when you die there's nothing anymore and it's got him terrified. He's been crying, asking if he'll die of a seizure, asking who of his family will die next. He said he...

Experiences of counselling research (aiming to improve future counselling)

Hello, I'm a trainee counselling psychologist at University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, and I'm researching the experiences of people with Aspergers who have received counselling. This research is part of my training, and it has ethical approval from UWE. If you are interested in...

    Hello all

I'm new here so I'm saying hello! I'm not on the spectrum, but I've worked with autistic and Aspie kids and teenagers for about 8 years and so I've become good friends with the families and kids that I work with. I needed to post something so the site knew I wasn't a spam-bot! Steph
