I have canoed down the rapids of desert rivers in our Southwest and I learned that, even on the water, one must stay hydrated to stay functional. Alcohol was reserved for the evening when the boats were beached and camp set up. And that, in moderation.
Just got a brand new chair at my office. They must really want to keep me if they are willing to get me a new office chair.
The first weekend of November, I will be gaming for 24 hours (in two 12 hour shifts) to raise money for Seattle Children's Hospital. Extra Life 2023, here I come!

Is this the same fund raising effort you participated in last year?

Remember to have food and water at your fingertips and do a little stretching.
I am thinking of buying myself a new couch within the next few months. I bought one for myself a few years ago "as is" and already it is falling apart - I feel ripped off.

Like so much else in the 21st century, furniture is not made to last. Something I too learned a few years back. Learning that the integrity of "faux leather" can fall off the cliff and just come to pieces after so long.
Everything in my life starts with upholding my personal boundaries. I shall no longer drop them for anybody. Especially not my family.

I'm in the same boat since I've just made the decision to go no-contact with my mother.

Me too. I feel better when I’m not contacting them
The past is the past. I have the present and the future to think of now. Let me replace my toxins with healthy growth.
Living for external validation is a waste of time, I now realize.

I am glad to hear that. Doing so is the start of reclaiming your agency and being able to advocate for yourself.
Sisu is the single most realistic WWII movie ever produced.

My vote goes to the series, Band of Brothers. Easy company's overrun of a German 88 battery is still taught at the war college. Second for me is The Monuments Men. If you have read about these warrior scholars you realize that they did the world an incredible service in saving our artistic heritage.
A part of me wants to go to the local Oktoberfest celebration where another part of me wonders if going somewhere where beer flows freely is a great idea for somebody like myself.

I know for me, it wouldn’t be a good environment. Maybe you can find a satisfying alternative.

Somebody needs to invent OktSoberfest. Sobriety and polka. Maybe wursts, too.

Vegan wursts would be nice, loaded with kraut. German mustard on a pretzel bun, and weiner dogs running around the venue just for fun.
I want to party this weekend. Fly to Munich for Oktoberfest. Eat some roasted chicken and watch some polka dancing.
