Is my autistic co-worker flirting with me?

I'm perfectly fine discussing topics around professionalism and technology but I am going to be staying far far far away from anything around sexuality. I read stories of HR disasters all the time and it's usually caused by someone talking about something they have no business talking about.

Sometimes I don't feel like I am autistic, but the others are

Here's the NT take. You're excited to share but the standard brain is thinking your presenting it as something I might be interested in. Now, if I'm your good buddy I might read it anyway because that is what friends do, but a more casual acquaintance is going to think "Why would I want to read...

2020 Movie Release Dates Calendar: Here’s What’s Coming to Theaters Next Year...

I just don't see many movies anymore. Most of what they make isn't very entertaining to me and a lot of what I do care about I wait until it hits digital. Not to mention the theater experience is as obnoxious as ever. If your list is correct, looks like I can avoid the theater until May 1st...

Is my autistic co-worker flirting with me?

The technology field is full of misfits that often had trouble fitting in growing up. I have constantly dealt with social and cultural issues throughout my career. All the same we still struggle when people are even more different. Autism is not widely accepted by the misfit filled field of...

Yelling, seeing anger in eyes, frightened

@paloftoon, your suggestion is very good for the reasons you stated. I was talking a bit more broader. It's not too much to ask people to respect personal space and it is not something limit to ASD. It's like everyone needs to go back and learn kindergarten rules. "Keep your hands to yourself'.

Yelling, seeing anger in eyes, frightened

Let's address this for a moment. Unless you have a job like Running Girl where physical contact is going to happen for the most part office environments in the US should not involve physical contact or even physical proximity. I've been browsing various topics here and thinking about past...

How can I support my ASD employees?

I will check those out. Unfortunately, HR would have to approve a speaker coming in but I may be able to persuade them since our execs have made such a big deal out of neurodiversity later. This is a common problem with a lot of developers who are not on the spectrum. Part of it is caused by...

Is my autistic co-worker flirting with me?

I appreciate where you're coming from and assume it's done with positive concern. Getting where I am in the tech field means navigating a lot of tough situations and I've had plenty of discussions with HR professionals. I do everything out in the open. I never meet anyone, men or women, in...

Is my autistic co-worker flirting with me?

We do regular lunch meetings when we are busy. Usually this is with peers or managers one level below me. It's a way to knock out agenda items, get out of the office, and not have to brown bag it. I take a team member out to lunch about twice a month if I am not swamped. I get a lot of...

Is my autistic co-worker flirting with me?

Alright, so a lot to chew on here. One of the scenarios I had envisioned was that this was unintentional flirting but some of it was so overt I wasn't sure how likely that was but @GadAbout did provide some meaningful insight. On the other hand I think I was hoping for more responses like...

Is my autistic co-worker flirting with me?

Just to be clear, she is no longer in my reporting structure at all. She knows I am not part of the decision making for whether or not she passes probation. However, I have seen this behavior from sales reps and it's just tiresome. I've had some brown nosers before as well. You could be...

Is my autistic co-worker flirting with me?

This is a sensitive situation but it's the real reason I sought out a place like this. I am a married middle aged man. I’m in senior management but not an executive. I have a new team member straight out of college who started out reporting to me but was transferred over to another team where...

Yelling, seeing anger in eyes, frightened

My experience with HR as well. However, HR will want to minimize the risk of lawsuit and liability and may get involved if they think it is severe enough. Still should be approached with caution as it can be surprising who they might side with. At the very least, if the manager is not...

Yelling, seeing anger in eyes, frightened

Your story seems bizarre to me. First of all, if this is just information gathering I don't understand the physical proximity issue. Granted, I don't have all the facts but this sounds like physical intimidation. I am in a senior management role and because of that I maintain a hyper-awareness...

Should I not indulge special interests?

Had I known sooner he had Asperger's I could have dealt with it a long time ago. Appreciate the suggestion. I want to walk a fine line here because he has great ideas and our discussions have helped him refine some of our software but I do need to find ways to cut him off in a supportive way...
