When i do i know when its too much?

I've struggled with this too. I work in a coffeeshop, and it can get really busy. I have substantial hearing loss, so don't have to explain that working on till and speaking with customers is less than ideal for me, but even just making drinks and food I can reach a point in a busy day where I...

    Did I Mess Up?

Nope. You did everything you could to help him. It was his girlfriend that threatened to kick him out, and then when you offered to help, she nosed in, expected a whole household (of people on the spectrum, no less) with their own responsibilities, routines, and lives to restructure it around...

    Boundaries are Reasonable

Very well put. Also, it is amazing to me that your sister thought that her request was even reasonable to begin with, nevermind to be upset about when you obviously refused. I am definitely guilty of overriding my own needs to make things more comfortable or convenient for others- it's...

    Air Fresheners

Air fresheners are disgusting- as you mentioned , in addition to the original smell there is now a manufactured chemical smell, and a bonus headache and nausea. They are actually hurtful. Have you explained your reaction to her or offered alternatives? When I want to get rid of scents or just...

    Bumping into people

I do this all the time, and more often than not to people I don't actually have any problem with- I'm just not in the mood to talk, or I'm feeling like I wouldn't have the energy I'd want to give them. I wouldn't take it personally :)

    Hello! Desperately Seeking Advice...

Hello, and welcome! I see many parallels between your experiences with my own- history of anxiety, knowing there was something different and never really knowing what (I thought ADHD, FASD, Depression, and a bunch of other things). It was ASD that really tied everything together and made so...

Feeling Stupid among Colleagues at Work

This was something I learned relatively recently: it doesn't matter how silly an idea is- if you say it with enough confidence people will listen and believe you. When you think about it, it makes sense- everybody is so worried about making the wrong decision that if somebody acts like they know...

    Autism at another level.

Honestly, i would rather a person be honest and blunt. It of course depends on the context and the intent of the delivery, but I think if you're intention is simply efficient communication and you're not trying to belittle, or otherwise upset people it's perfectly fine. Unfortunately, people can...

    How long do clothes last

Clothing lasts me forever, as I mostly buy quality second hand fabrics, but one of my stims is pacing, so I wear out my shoes and socks pretty quickly- I can wear out the sole on a pair of fairly good quality shoes ($80 CAD) within 2 months.

    Dealing with anger

I relate to this alot- my fuse is also very short and while I am not physically violent and have never actually hurt anybody unless it was in self defence, my temper can be pretty scary and I will have to leave a situation immediately to avoid becoming violent. For me, that is essential-...

Not doing well at my current job.

Ummm.. maybe I'm missing some information but if your friends issue with you leaving your job is simply because you'll be unemployed and viewed as a "slacker" they are a problematic and ignorant person that places too much value on silly societal expectations. If this job does not work for you...

    Chunks

It's probably a mixture of all of this and more, though it doesn't excuse this mindset. In my unfortunate experiences with misogynistic individuals, a lot of it is just men being mad that women don't like them, or don't treat them the way their mothers did and somehow women are responsible for...

    Favourite Tim Curry Songs?

This thread is ancient, but I love Tim Curry! My first introduction was in Fern Gully, and picking a favourite song from him is nearly impossible, but he does a cover of I Put a Spell on You that I find really creepy and beautiful.

    Your Favorite Color(s)?

It very much depends on the day, but colours I'm drawn to most are forest green, maroon, magenta (which apparently isn't a real colour!), dark purple, navy and GOLD!

How Long Do You Last At a Social Gathering?

It depends on a lot of factors- number of people, whether there is drinking, the physical environment, my mood, etc. I don't like a lot of people, but if there is too few there is pressure for me to talk more and chances are that I won't be able to hear, there will be too many conversations to...
