Has anyone else had an experience using noise canceling headphones at church? I could still hear everything but it didn’t annoy my ears and it wasn’t sharp like knives into my eardrums. I had to lean in to hear the pastor preach but that was fine. He was kind enough to give a disclaimer so that everyone knew I wasn’t just listening to music because he announced that one of our members was using noise canceling headphones and that we were just glad she is here. I was relieved he said that. I wished he had also said that I have autism but that’s fine. They all clapped in a welcoming way. I avoided eye contact and hand shaking as best I could during the greeting as well by staying in my seat and though some people hugged me while I was seated, most people respected me. I was surprised that I made it through the whole service without being overstimulated. I was relaxed actually. I definitely recommend wearing them. I did feel a little different like I was the oddball but everyone smiled at me.
