Being ourselves, not what our things are - A Case For Frugal Living

?Smelling good, and looking like 10 million bucks? ? Kevin Federline
It?s good to be fresh. I want to look rich, but well, these days, frugality means chic.
Hence, I read a book ?Frugillionaire? by Francine Jay, and I screamed for joy. What follows is some ideas to think about:

In Singapore, eating out in restaurants is getting more expensive, due to rising standards of living from the influx of rich immigrants, coming to Singapore to seek stability in an unstable world. So perhaps we can all start home cooking. It?s said that from the book: with the cost less than an appetizer, we prepare meals in large batches, freezing for the whole week or month while buying things in bulk, loving leftovers, eating less expensive but more nutritious food such as whole grains, eggs or tofu, buy seasonal produce, baking your own pastries and lunch boxes, eating breakfast at home.

Also, some household tips include: doing full loads on everything, sitting on the floor, clean things often, and try to maintain no lawns (why even have lawns when there are gardens?)

Then there are some fashion tips. I already buy out of season, try my best to shop in local online stores whenever possible, I mend clothes as much as I can, and I wear clothes in my closet regularly. But I always have some ?wish? clothes ? I always love oversized clothing and baggy shorts, no matter what may happen.

For recreation, there are also various options. You don?t need to use the gym for muscles ? push-ups and pull ups will do ? but if necessary, you can try walking 30 minutes a day, drink plenty of water, and sleep regularly. You don?t need to go to museums or concert halls, unless it?s a free-of-charge, or that you?re a volunteer or usher. Also, I try to go to church as often as I can, because the church is a great experience ? the architecture, the music, the people are all wonderful. I prefer established churches, but some new-age churches can be awesome, too.

Also, there are more options for fun. I can be my own DJ, I can host a free movie night (I did watch Kenny Bee and Fong Fei Fei?s Cutie Girl in one of my own personal movie nights). I can learn ?Gangnam Style? from the Internet, such as YouTube. I can even brand my weekends ?No spend weekends? if I got no groceries to make. Also, I get suggestions such as: reading a good book, tackling puzzles, take photographs, learn foreign language, learning on new skills, joining discussion groups, learning a new musical instruments (especially, if you?re living in Singapore, drums, for there are many good bassists and guitarists and even singers, but very few drummers here).
As for thinking, I was advised, ?if you think you are rich enough, you are truly rich? (Tao Te Ching), and that I could have another indicator of success?

For now, though, I need more help in redefining success.

In essence, the book teaches us, we are what we are. We save, we scrimp, but in the end, we are ourselves.
