Windows line wrap

Windows powers what again? Oh, that explains everything, got it.

I tried to boot Linux Mint from a USB drive to see if it would run on my new PC, but I think I need to change a few settings in BIOS as it doesn't like booting up anything else but Windows right now. I'm in the "I need Windows" camp, mainly for the games, but I'm no stranger to Linux either and wouldn't mind dual booting if I can get it to work.

By default "Boot from USB" is disabled on most motherboards. You should also be able to enable the F12 boot menu. Then you tap on the F12 key during boot and it pops up a little menu with all the bootable drives it can find.

That's also the best way to set up a dual boot Desktop. Keep the different OSs on physically different drives and use the F12 boot menu to decide if you want Windows or Linux.

During installation it's best if the other operating system's harddrive is physically unplugged so it can't be found during installation. Microsoft doesn't play nice, if it finds a Linux drive during installation it will wipe out that drive's boot menu.

I circumvent any and all issues associated with dual-booting by simply using removable SSDs using "Icy Dock" drive bays". Of course it helps if you are also using a Linux Distro that can boot effortlessly with Secure Boot already enabled in your bios. Not all Linux distros allow it.

Though presently I'm not running any Windows OS on my separate drives. Waiting to see user feedback over Windows 11 with the 25H2 update. To be used only for gaming purposes. Leaving Linux Mint 22.1 as my daily driver.

The only downside being that you need an external 3.5 drive bay in your computer case. Fast becoming an endangered species with most, but not all case manufacturers.
