Why does society dictate that one must have a romantic/sexual partner??

You don't need either to be whole, but society expects marriage and sex to happen primarily for the sake of procreation. Secondary concerns include alliances between families for political, social, and economic gain.

But honestly, if you don't have an interest in romance or sex, that's perfectly fine. Anyone who has a problem will just have to deal with it.

That entire concept has shifted over centuries, but the notion of having a significant other does stick. It's perhaps the sense of companionship most people crave, but I doubt it's something that is required for everyone. Some people don't have this interest to be with someone.

Furthermore I think it's quite a cultural thing as well. In some countries (and perhaps even certain regions) there is more of an emphasis to have a family and being single (in whatever shape or form) is frowned upon, just like it's frowned upon to not have children.

Well... sex sells.

It's also worth noting that sex and romance aren't always mutual... especially not when it comes to using sex as a tool for advertising. Besides; advertising with either sex or romance is way too idealized and gives out a weird imagine as well... something some people might not necessarily see as their own expression of romance (nor their desire to express in the way depicted)

The kind of sex depicted in the media isn't necessarily related to love and marriage, though. It's just sex for its own sake---and in a form that tends to condition people into thinking that that's what sex is meant to be like for everyone. (Just look at porn.) And as Oni said, sex is an appealing advertising tactic.
 
I think it's really stupid in TV or movies how they show a couple having sex by the girl jumping around the guy and they knock everything off the table & go on said table. Do ppl really do that?
 
I would imagine most people don't. I mean, who wants to clean up the mess later?

One reason sex is like that in movies and on TV is that it appeals to people's fantasies.
 
I would imagine such advertising/movies/TV portrayals might also have a negative effect also on those people who do have or want a sexual life as it leads some of them to have unrealistic expectations of what that is like.
 
Well, don't worry so much about what society expects. At the end of the day, you're going to have to pay all the bills and clean up any messes, so live accordingly.

Most people have a need for sex and romance, so it is naturally a big deal for us. I often wish I didn't. Would have made my life easier. If you don't feel the need for such, devote your valuable time and energy to other things while the rest of us deal with our urges and needs. Count yourself lucky, as well.
