Berliner was also the name of a popular pastry, and by inserting the "ein" before Berliner, he was actually saying "I am a jelly donut!"

It's a very popular pastry in Australia, it's a bit better than a simple donut though. One of my favourites.

I would have gone with "sleepy eyeballs" or
"Annoyed eyeballs."

Maybe insomnia is common there.
