What were your favourite countries when you were eight?

Australia because it is shaped a bit like a Lions head and Africa because it is shaped like an Elephants Ear.

Narnia.

I loved maps too. I would play with my stamp collection and look up people and places to understand what the stamps were celebrating. It was never-ending exploration.

I loved Italy, I visited it a few times as a kid and remembered the friendly people, beautiful landscape and terrific food fondly.

I would call it Bootaly.

Not sure about any other countries. I pretty much always lived in a state that was shaped like half mitten and half jackrabbit.

I was not as taken with the atlas as I was with stamps and my favourite stamp came from Venezuela. I used to gaze at it and lovingly stroke it with my index finger, which my former spouse claims is more attention than I ever paid to him.

Does everyone have a maya thing at some point?
That's just an illusion. :D

At age eight I wanted to see Britain.
But my real fascination of far away lands was Space and the voyages of the starship Enterprise!
Seemed only logical...

Never been outside America. Have little desire to go elsewhere. Except the sky love the view.
just being an aeroplane, even on domestic flight is amazing ,when you look outside, it’s 40 minutes from where I live to London , which still seems slightly surreal compare to 5 hours on a coach or three hours on the train .

I was obsessed with America and devoured any books that the them was America and so, I understood all the America terms and never been to America.

Can't remember age 8 or at what age I started looking at atlases but since high school have loved atlases and have always wanted to see the world. In my teens and 20s was obsessed with Afghanistan and Indonesia, primarily because they were never talked about in the news and I wanted to know more about them. After I started working in my 20s I bought the National Geographic World Atlas for $75 which was a princely sum for me at that time. I still have it and still love it.

I love maps including Street maps and Google maps on my phone. Just bought a map book of the area I have been on holiday in, I like to have one as well as the Google option. I didn't go abroad as a child except for a day trip to France and a French exchange, when I visited the Loire valley for 3 weeks and saw many chateaux which were fascinating.

I loved history and ancient places. At around 8 my favourite places were in Wales and the South West. I loved places I knew, and had been to, rather than knowing them from maps.
