What was the last movie you watched?

"Robinson Crusoe On Mars" (1964) - Available on Youtube

The first science fiction film I saw in a movie theater. Loved it, and it remains a cherished boyhood memory though some of the film is obviously dated at this point in time.

I remember reading about Robinson Cruise , but he was on an island not Mars.🤔

The film even credited the story being predicated on Daniel Defoe's original novel, "Robinson Crusoe". With a somewhat updated explanation of "Friday" though. A slave from another planet.

Fear Street: Prom Queen

This was on par with the other Netflix, Fear Street movies. It started out like they were going to skimp on the gore, but about 20 or so minutes in, they ramped up everything and just kept going. Absurd, unforgivably 80's and just fun and funny, even.

I was looking at the new movies that TCM was cycling into the available films on MAX and found "The Band Wagon". It is one of the great MGM musicals and I realized I had not actually seen the film before.

It is a companion piece to "Singing in the Rain and does for Broadway musicals what 'Singing' did for Hollywood. It is all about the Musical numbers both on and off the stage and at least one is haunting and mesmerizing at the same time. Clearly shot on a sound stage, if you watch carefully, the leaves on the trees and shrubbery dance in the wind while Fred Astaire and Cyd Cherise match each other step for step to the music of 'Dancing in the Dark'.

Oh, and the song 'That's Entertainment' was written specifically for this film.

I watched a bit of Heart Eyes. 💀

There's a disgusting scene where a woman hides inside a grape crusher, which is activated by a serial killer who has chased her into a winery. 😱 🩸

I watched a film called 'cel'l, which is American for mobile as in mobile phone, if you don't like scary end of world stuff this film isn't for you maybe, here is a link

Presence.

This is a classic ghost story flipped on its head and completely from the perspective of the ghost the entire time. It's slow burn pretty much, and everything mentioned in the film actually matters (you'll realize this at the end of the film and quite more after the fact, as it sets in your mind better).

p.s. If you liked CELL, you should check out The Signal (2007 - David Bruckner) film, as it does the same plot but way more intense, gory and just better.

Kind of a spoiler, so - Spoiler Alert - don't read further.
Per watching both, Heart Eyes and Fear Street: Prom Queen...

I can watch slasher films and always have fun with them, but there is a growing problem of them all turning into "Scream" by the ending. Totally Killer, Sick, Halloween Ends, etc....the list goes on.

"The Alto Knights" (2025)

Robert DeNiro playing the roles of both Frank Costello and Vito Genovese as old men. A boyhood friendship that didn't last with their given their obedience and differing interpretation of leadership within the Cosa Nostra.

I couldn't stop thinking of how they portrayed Albert Anastasia as a calm and kindly ally to Frank Costello. The Albert Anastasia I read about earned the nicknames like "The Earthquake", "The One-Man Army" and the "Lord High Executioner". Who would go onto to meet a very unkindly end in a barber shop.

Yet the film was well done in terms of a single actor playing two parts of former friends who opposed one another over leadership of one of the most notorious crime organizations in America. And DeNiro made it work.

Sinners. I have seen it three times already. It is one of the most fun politically charged movies I have seen in a very long while.

The 1978 version of invasion of the body snatchers is one of my favourite films. I've seen the 2007 version too. I am currently watching for the first time the 1956 version
