What Music Do You Listen To When Working?

Misfate

An isolated cloud in the sky
Hey Guys:), it's been a while: I've been engaged in applications of occupation, scholarship, and college, all concurrently I may add, while still keeping up with my work as a senior of high school (whew!). I am still engaged in so, and will still be absent from the forums for some time, but I decided to leave a forum to check up on now and again.

Anyhow the topic: while you are busy in work, whether be it occupational or educational, what type, or types, of music do you prefer listening to? For me it would be Classical.

P.S. Credit to the music poll list goes to Music Genre List - A complete list of music styles, types and genres | Music Genres List (Sorry, wish I could have included all of the genres from the site to the poll, but check out the site!)

Music tends to be a big distraction for me in general, so quite often I didn't listen to music at all. I remember at work they had the radio blaring and it drove me nuts (up to the point where I just wanted to take a small step ladder and tear the speakers out of the ceiling), though I realized without the radio I'd had to deal with all the small talk and chatter of co-workers, which is even worse :\

But if music is involved, on the rare occasions, it's usually something instrumental. Movie scores, sometimes something electronic, sometimes something classical.

My coworker keeps his radio tuned to a station that plays 60's, 70's, and 80's music, so that's always playing throughout the day. It's not loud, but more like in an elevator. It's actually quite pleasant.

Yeah I gotta agree with Oni on this one. Music causes my mind to drift when I working. In my field can be a little dangerous. I do all my music listening in the car and despite my age, I pretty partial to House.

Me too, my mind drifts into figuring out the music especially if it's really interesting. And whatever it is, it can't be loud. I need to be in deep concentration being an engineer, I have to keep many trains of thought going at once.

Do we get the option of turning it to the white noise between stations on low volume?

It entirely depends upon the kind of work I'm doing. If I'm, say, cleaning, then I usually have on something peppy. But if I'm doing anything that requires mental concentration, silence is best; maybe it's my musical training, but every time I hear music, my mind immediately latches on to it for whatever reason and I can't focus on the task at hand.

I use the Slacker app at work, turned to their Yacht Rock channel. Hooray for the 1970s!

I've recently discovered the "joys of jazz," so that's what I put on when I'm doing my Saturday chores. There's something about cool jazz that goes together well with cleaning the house.:)

I rarely listen to music when I work, but when I do, I just listen to the same stuff I usually listen to, which is mainly metal, jazz, and some folk/pop music.

I listen to opera and other classical music in my mancave. My favorite piece is Mozart's requiem which I find amazingly comforting. In second place is a DVD of Luciano Pavarotti's arias.

I like to avoid music with lyrics while working, but I find instrumental pieces can be soothing/relaxing.

Instrumental- light classical is fine when I'm multitasking. Unless it has to do with crunching numbers. Then I prefer silence.

Usually electronic music, but for the most part, anything will work for me, as long as it is a few tracks on repeat. Just so it becomes repetitive and blocks out any background noise. I have a sensitivity to sound, so usually silence isn't silence for me, since I hear all of the tiny noises (humming from bad wiring, building creaking, distant cars or conversation, air conditioner, etc...), and get a headache.

Though I pretty much have to always have some sort of music or primary sound going on.

Aw, no Metal on the poll? I'm sad. =(

I tend to listen to country, classical, classic rock, metal, alternative, some pop, and "world" music like Enya.

"Where's the metal?" :p

I put in the earbuds and rock out to Rob Zombie, Judas Priest, Primus, The Pretty Reckless and other such bands with a heavy bass line while I'm writing reports.

Sometimes, I feel a little mellower and go for the Pink Floyd, or get into a Celtic mood and listen to Rasputina or Tempest and similar bands. I even like English pop bands once in awhile.:)

I'd go mad without music to listen to while I'm working. It really helps me to focus on what I'm doing and ignore distractions. It keeps the boredom level tolerable too.

I'm not sure what it depends on, but it could be almost anything probably. I can spend days listening to music but then I wouldn't want to hear a sound. When I need to focus I prefer music without singing or with limited vocals. I like classical music during late fall and winter. I also like listening to some Native American groups. I think the name was the Black Lodge. They are amazing. Sometimes I like listening to death metal. But I prefer melodic type. Right now I prefer Paradise Lost. I added all their albums on Spotify, so I would just start with the 1st one and listen everything I can after that. I almost never listen to hip-hop or R&B - not my cup of tea really. Sometimes I like listening to alternative rock, or electronic music. Even though electronic is my summer time music usually.
