What jobs should I apply for?

My main skills are in IT and customer service having done admin for a lot of the local charities over the years and worked in most of the main Charity shops.

However, I'm applying for part time sales jobs at the moment and keep getting "you have been unsuccessful" emails in my Outlook inbox.

Do I need someone to improve my CV? Last month I got that interview for the Telesales position in Town based on the current version of my CV, but other than that I've had no luck.

CV stands for Curriculum Vitae by the way, in case the Americans are wondering, you'd call it a Resume'.

So anyway, should I still be applying for Sales gigs? Not Telesales or call centres though due to my being deaf and wearing a hearing aid.
 
Hey, Rich. An IT job would be perfect but since there aren't any available that you know of, I think you should try for a sales job and see how it goes. You can always quit if it doesn't work out.

BTW, Americans also refer to resumes as "CVs".

I had no prior experience as an underwriter or insurance rater. Interviewed for the job and started out as a rater. Sometimes it pays to step out of your comfort zone. And focus on what you think you can do as opposed to what you think you can't do. Try to project a sense of confidence beyond the scope of your work history. And show interest and curiosity about the job.

One thing for sure, delete all your job references that are fifteen or more years old. That just encourages age discrimination because it immediately reflects you're no youngster applying for work. Besides, the job market changes so rapidly that work that far back isn't relevant to most prospective employers.

Hard to say exactly what they are implying with "you have been unsuccessful" comments. I can only speculate that those particular employers are looking for experience in paying jobs. Though I suspect not every employer has such a bias.

IT work is best for you, Rich.

Sales means communication skills and well, sadly first appearance and so, if one is either shy; hesistant; unable to read social ques or even aggressive, then that will be counterproductive.

Seems your current cv is the one that will help you find work, but you must know that yourself, otherwise, you would not be so specific.

I'll get somebody to work on my CV at some point.

Maybe take out stuff dating as far back as the early to mid 90's and keep to stuff in the last 10 or 11 years.

Well I've just applied for a 20 hours a week position at O2 in Manvers, Rotherham, which is a bit of a Pig to get to but I might have to cross that Bridge IF I get to it.

Hi Rich... I'm not sure if you have Temp Services there... I'm guessing you do. We have actually hired full times from there who were so good we just didn't want to see them leave. It also gives you some variety.
I have no idea if that would help... I just notice that you truly want a job... its just a thought. Best of luck to you buddy. : )

The problem with temporary work, is that I'm on benefits, which I can't come off for a lot of reasons, and it would probably take the Job Centre the duration of the work to file the paper work for me to be allowed to work.

And I've had problems before with being messed about by Employment Agencies.
