What do you think of TEACCH?

They offer that here where we live, in the school system. I see it as somewhat of a sound approach, and we incorporate many principles of it but not all, in our homeschooling. We are a believer in structure to create new healthier or more socially appropriate academic routines, to try to replace any routines that could make sustained learning more difficult, and to make learning a variety of things more effective and efficient.

We allow non structured learning as well, and especially Dylan needs that because of his ADHD too. We realize each child will learn differently, as Dylan is more kinesthetic learning, and Aaron more visual. Each will go at their own pace, and have different limitations and special accommodation needs. We have the goal in mind for our children to become as functional and independent as possible, but let them lead and be themselves a lot, too.

I like that it focuses on building skills rather than just altering behaviors.

From what I've seen of it in a documentary, it might have worked well for me as a child. I am not well-versed in it, though, so that's just a guess. I really heavily on visual-spatial skills and visual-spatial tools in my daily life.
