I've read some good fanfics, and some really terrible, hilarious ones. Various franchises. I don't mind it in general although I don't really seek it out anymore.
I do think that writing about fictional characters is fine and fair game, but RPF (real-person fiction) is crossing a line and makes me quite uncomfortable- and there are genuine instances of it ruining people's lives/careers.
I'm a writer myself, but I only write original characters, some slightly inspired by people I know in real life who are very close to me (and are okay with it), but never based on a public figure and I avoid any similarities to real famous people.
