Here in the U.S.A., if you walk into a typical bank to withdraw your cash, and ask the teller for your money in $2 notes, the teller will typically reply that they have perhaps a dozen of these in the branch. I prevailed on a local bank to order these from the Federal Reserve Bank.
They explain to customers who want them that "Customers don't want them."
When they see me walking into the property tax office, they know they are in for a stack of these. It seems like I am the only one using $2 notes, often motivating cashiers to ask their managers about these.
"We don't like them because we have no spot in the cash till for them." explains the owner who set up the cash till that way.
I give back the extra change when they think the half dollar coin is a dollar, which is often, given the ignorance of so many people. The Canadian half dollar is also rare in circulation in Canada.
