Duplicates as in alternate universes co-existing in different timelines or like duplicates in the here and now? Like buddhisms reincarnation decided to split you into a multitute of you? Just trying to wrap my head around your meaning there.I sometimes have this firm belief that I was alive many times before, and that there are duplicates of me existing and doing the same thing.

Some believe that this is only a temporary plane of existence based on reincarnated lives. One in which time is linear, based on diurnal rotation of the sun. That when that single reincarnation is completed, one returns to their primary plane of existence, which is not of this earth, and has no celestial objects to establish diurnal rotation.
In other words, time as we know it here does not exist there.
Which seems to make sense that the sum total of our mortal reincarnations can be absolutely accounted for on our primary plane of existence, but not here on our secondary plane of existence.
Yet for whatever reason, some individual mortal souls are capable of being aware of their past lives (in part or in whole), apart from being able to witness occasional phenomena on this plane of existence that is actually indicative of our other plane of existence.
Perhaps you are one of those souls. With an ability to see beyond the inherent limitations of this mortal plane of existence. An issue that has vexed me for many years. Why some souls have such experiences, while the vast majority do not. And whether this is a blessing of some kind, or a curse.
That could be an interesting plot to a sci-fi show. Buddhist reincarnation gone wrong where instead of the person reincarnating as one person they suddenly get split.I think it's in the here and and Buddhism reincarnation.
It's funny now on the idea of reincarnation and how the definition can change the expectations.Reincarnation will happen even according to the biblical belief system. Everyone gets a new, heavenly body. That's reincarnation, per the definition. Now, per coming back here over and over, well, there's several stories of children knowing things they would never know otherwise. Hard to ignore.
Also, how many times do we see dopplegangers in the same time frame we exist in? Seems that life cycle genetics and such tends to repeat itself over and over in short time, as well as over generations (of lookalikes), so it would be naive to think that the whole life cycle process can't be alone in recreating sameness - surely consciousness can be recycled, as well?
Yes, fun to think about.

Until you brought it up I hadn't thought about the Xian biblical reincarnation. I think I've always viewed reincarnation more akin to the Dax character/Trills of the Star Trek world. New body yes, but also a new personality/identity that exists with the memories of the past. Where as I never thought of the bilical thing as what I'd consider reincarnation because it was the same soul being given a new meat sleeve that presumably is identical to the earthly sleeve. No new persona involved in that scenario.
@Oz67 just for the sake of this thread and having us all on the same page how are you defining reincarnation?
See now I've yet to see any of those where with some deep investigation they weren't disproven. I'm not saying it's beyond the realm of possibility but I still have not come across anything that even feels remotely legit in that vein of thinking. I'm a skeptic at heart but I want to believe. Which is a contradiction I know.Click onto YouTube... all sorts of videos and case studies of small children remembering their past lives... and can be corroborated with those still living that remember them.
I've come to believe "we" are not our bodies, per se, but a soul temporary occupying a "meat suit"... LOL! "We" are basically an "energy being" that can be bound and unbound from our bodies. The near-death episode cases are interesting, and all suggest this.
So much we need to discover and prove.
