Thanksgiving Plans?

I thought with Thanksgiving right around the corner, it might be nice to have a thread where we can discuss what we plan to do for Thanksgiving. We found a super good sale on Turkey this year so that was something to be thankful for in itself. We have a couple cans cranberry sauce and are supposed to have mashed potatoes and some pie.

I am planning to overeat and submit myself to extreme sensory and social overload. Extended family always meet at my mother's house.

Overeat and in-law overload. I will spend most of the day watching football and drinking so I don't have to have extensive conversations. We also buy our Christmas tree during on one of the weekend days.

I don't know. There was a death in my family and so two of my relatives have their house filled with the possessions of someone else's home, so they can't host, and they might not come.

Another relative's apartment is very small and their kitchen is small and there aren't enough seats. But they do love hosting.

And then I've been very sick, I don't know if I can host it unless my daughter wants to do most of it.

And then another relative is psychologically unsafe to be around. But it would be absolute cruelty to not invite them to Thanksgiving, seeing as they are homeless. And they are loved.

It makes me really really sad because family time is so important. There's nothing more sacred, other than faith in Jesus. Family is everything. And I don't wanna be alone. I don't want to be separated. It makes me very sad.

Reflect and somewhat resent what was done to half of my heritage.....and then eat a lot anyway.

My husband has some Cherokee ancestry. I always cook something to honor our Native Americans such as succotash, wild rice, corn pudding, etc. Sometimes I order live lobsters and steam them as I believe that lobsters were eaten at the first Thanksgiving. This year I'm thinking about cooking a venison roast. Pumpkin pie reflects Indian heritage, too.

I've essentially eliminated celebrating Thanksgiving altogether. No family or turkey dinner. I don't even watch the parades on television any more.

It doesn't help that a Thanksgiving and the dinners offered here have become so commercialized with a price tag I can no longer justify or afford. If you want to go to a Casino Buffet, take out a second mortgage.

Just another day to me for the last few years.

Oh, no, Judge! Roast a Cornish game hen in place of a turkey. Put some carrots on the sheet pan, with olive oil, salt and pepper, in the oven to go with it. Or just bake a sweet potato in the oven for about an hour. I'll be sad if you don't eat something traditional that day. :(

I'm afraid my cooking abilities pale compared to your own. Compounded by my OCD relative to the inevitable mess that ensues with cooking much of anything that is likely to taste really good.

Then again having my favorite food is always within my abilities. Maybe I'll make tacos. ;)

We're going to one of our daughter's home because the small kids can safely play there. It's well child-proofed, which our house no longer is.

Tacos are fine. Corn, beans, peppers and tomatoes are all genuine American originals. Go for it!

I've condensed much of what I eat within the realm of anything "Mexican". Easier to prepare and above all, still tasty to me. :)

Sadly a lot of food I used to like just doesn't compel me to eat it anymore. I've lost a lot of weight in the last year, just losing interest in both the taste of foods and their co$t.
