There are many ways to get to know oneself,...but keep in mind,...as one begins to discover oneself,...there is, in some cases, as desire to change. Furthermore, because we often discover ourselves, not all at once, but a little at a time,...we never completely understand who we are,...as we are always in a state of change.

Live long enough and you realize you are not the same person you were in your 20's, 30's, 40's, etc. Your views modify with life experience, learning, and mistakes.

In my life,...prior to my diagnosis,...I was somewhat aware and unaware of my condition. However, once I did receive my diagnosis, I have been on a journey of self-discovery and learning,...deep dives into "all things autism" within the scientific literature, watching scientific lectures, and being a part of this forum,..."How does this apply to me?",...and then changing my behaviors to become a better citizen. I know that if I looked at some of my forum posts from a few years ago, I might cringe at some of my statements. I have learned and changed. My biggest challenge currently is,...perspective and context,...and the pause that this requires to convert from "system 1" thinking to a more thoughtful "system 2" thinking.

Hi and welcome. Yes getting to know yourself can be hard. Especially for neurodiverse people, where the world around us often doesn't confirm our experience of ourselves, tries to make us different or to step in line. It's isolating and confusing. It's good that you are here!
