Do you watch subtitled movies?

I watch a lot of foreign language films with English subtitles, and sometimes when I watch British films I watch them with subtitles due to the sometimes thick accents the actors are speaking with.

Subtitles in everything as long as they're good readable but not distracting.

Not a lot, but I certainly don't mind reading subtitles. Though I prefer to do without them when it comes to irish or British films and television. I enjoy all the dialects, even when I have a hard time understanding them.

Always loved "The Black Book" with Dutch, German and English along with subtitles.

Yeah, I'll watched subbed and dubbed films.
I'll also put English subtitles on English movies, although for that one it's if I'm watching a film with harder to listen voices or if I'm watching a film early in the morning/late at night.

Subtitles are fine, as long as I'm watching at home and can pause when I need to, because often the subtitles disappear before I get a chance to finish reading. I'm not so keen on dubbed, it is unnatural/unreal, but will watch sometimes.

If the movie is in the English language, to begin with, my wife still wants the subtitles because her hearing isn't what it used to be. Subtitles are a blessing. Watching a dubbed version of a foreign language movie is only for something I'm desperate to see, but subs aren't available.

Don't like subs. Distracts from the movie.
English accents are fine and no problems understanding them.
If someone is hard of hearing that I am watching with, I just ignore the subtitles they need.

I usually watch YouTube videos with subtitles because I'm usually eating something loud while I'm watching them (chips, pretzels, etc)

When we are in Mexico, the movies are often American with English speaking actors but with Spanish subtitles. It helps my Spanish reading comprehension.

Always watch foreign movies (or TV shows) in the original language with subtitles. I understand why dubs exist, but for me if something was made in a certain language, then I want to watch it in that language.

Subtitles for things in my own language depends on how hard it is for me to understand the accents.

Not sure if it's just me, but lately been needing subtitles while watching some recent movies as I can barely hear the dialogue.. I know I'm also losing my hearing but also seems like the sound mixing is poor with a lot of mumbling dialogue and too much bass in the background score and sound effects in the more modern movies. Producers are too focused on the soundtracks and audio stimulation than actual movie substance it seems..

I watch perfectly-clear English-language (my native language) movies with subtitles so I don't have to worry about figuring out what someone didn't enunciate perfectly clearly, or worry about turning the sound up for dialog scenes and down for action scenes.

The one thing I don't like about subtitles is that sometimes the subtitle will ruin a surprise before the actor has spoken it.

I only speak English so I watch other English language films with subtitles but I’ve always wanted to watch films from other countries. In fact I’m curious about how it’d be to watch something entirely in a different language with English subtitles

I always watch movies with subtitles. I really struggle to comprehend the dialogue being said otherwise. Especially in more modern movies where the two volumes of speech seem to be whispering and shouting.

I always expect to be in the majority in your surveys but never am. I like to read books. I don't like to watch and read simultaneously, and because reading is faster than speaking, I can't help but read each line several times before the next comes up.

There are some really good dubs, and there are some terrible dubs. One of the reasons I prefer subs over dubs in foreign films is because the voice actors doing the dubs are often not nearly as good as the original actors. They fail to get the emotions right, or the voice does not match the character. Or maybe the lips don't synch, which drives me nuts.

I think it is easier to do a good job of subbing. No lip-synch issues and keeps the original vocal expressions of the performers. A sub is less likely to be way off in meaning than a dub because they aren't trying to make a different language fill the same amount of time.

Foreign films? Dubbed. Subtitles draw my eyes away from the center of the action.
Domestic films? Closed captions, for when a character whispers or the dialog is drowned out by other audio effects, etc.

Techinically Foreign language films would be a good answer for me. However. English is a foreign language for me but I never turn on subtitles. One, because my reading is to slow to follow it. And two, and this one is more important, Dutch subtitles are just very very bad with English movies. And I end up correcting the subtitles more than watching the movie.
I only turn them on if I do not speak a language, for example a japanese anime.

I'll use them for foreign films or if the music is louder that speech (an issue these days) or if my wife is sleeping and I have to turn volume way down.

Yeah. Irritates the heck out of me that in order to hear what is being said, I have to turn up the volume and then something "dramatic" happens with music or loud action and I get blasted. Or the TV goes to a commercial, and you can hear it next door.
