Starting Over In Life

My social communication style seems to be quite a problem as well.
I had a interview yesterday as a sales rep for a paint company and thought I try something new. Today I get a call telling me I didn’t get the position and reason being is because I didn’t sound confident, I was limited on my communication/vocabulary, and I wasn’t articulating my thoughts correctly.
And this is why I don’t want to do interviews because of this problem right here.

Though while hearing such bad news is never pleasant, at least you were offered real feedback which is something to consider at least with regards to the next inevitable interview.

I can think of many a disastrous interview on my part, but never one that offered potentially any constructive criticism. Conversely I do recall one interview where they called me back to tell me out of some 41 candidates, I was "next in line" to be hired.

At the time that kinda stung more than just not getting the job. But the next interview was successful and turned out to be a much better fit.

Are you based in the US, Dillon?
Do you have at least a Bachelors degree?

A lot of places are not hiring at the moment, but it can help to be associated with specific networks.
You can try to look for these on your own.

Please do not ask me personally unless you're willing to do a video chat with me first and you're open to trading names. information, etc. Quality networking is a positive for me.
Best wishes!

Sorry about the tribulations you're experiencing and may you emerge stronger from them.

In regards to work, have you considered doing tutoring? Your graduate STEM degree would make you an attractive tutor in the eyes of a high school student's parents.

There'll be more opportunities if you are open to doing online tutoring and flexible hours to adapt to different time zones. There are online tutoring agencies where you create a profile and get matched with students.

So many jobs just disappeared. Yesterday,, a car dealer that l had regularly been checking for used cars just closed ddown. The owner bought it from a dealership going out of business in 2024. Them they closed down in June 2025. We went to Chili's restaurant because my partner hasn't been there in years. Apparently the other Chili's closed down just recently. I am seeing many businesses that have for sale signs. House prices completely dropped. Some people are calling this a depression, so perhaps don't be so hard on yourself.

You probably would have made a good paint rep, being a fellow Aspie we would have got along great. Most of my career was dealing with paint reps in my various labs. discussing the chemistry or colour.
