My neice is 3 and is just starting to understand Sesame Street. It was really fun to watch with her as it was my favorite show as a child. My mother once caught me running away (I was 4) and she asked me where I was going. "Sesame Street".
"Where is that?"
"New York"
"How do you know that?"
"The signs and stuff"
I think my mother was gobsmacked after that. :)

I think back with Burt and Ernie(my fav). I believe Ernie was on the spectrum. Because he could explain everything with the same voice tone. Burt was NT.

I had mixed feelings about Julia, but when I found out Autism $peaks was a sponsor and had commercials with Julia in them I want absolutely nothing to do with her and the writers of Sesame Street should be deeply ashamed.

Bert is the most aspie-like character on the whole show.:) He has unusual interests like pigeons and paper clips, likes oatmeal and other bland foods, wears practical clothing, and Ernie and his other friends think what Bert likes is usually boring or silly.

Lol. I guess Ernie was my fav guy, but you are about Bert. My daughter watched this growing up. She doesn't know she is HFA either.

Bert is autistic. He just wants to be left alone with his pigeons, his books, and his paperclip collection. He prefers quiet repetition. Loud sounds overwhelm him, as do many conversations.

Ernie on the other hand has ADHD. He can't sit still and is really in your face.

Ernie annoys Burt but at times Burt tolerates him because hes his nest friend.
