Yup. Ice Cube. I actually quoted it last week (to my mother, of all people).I think it's from an NWA song.
I wish Aspie Central had a store where we could buy pins or hats or shirts or rubber bracelets or some way to identify. 100% of the time, I would walk by another Aspie and think they are NTs. What a terrible waste!
Every single time I have ever run into Aspies, whether we knew it at the time or not, it has been the best, life changing conversations, perfect information, gentle kindness or upfront honestly with fun and truth and depth.
I see people who might be but NTs that act odd do NOT like to be approached. They think we are all so closed off, but Aspies I met like other Aspies. Weird NTs do NOT like Aspies so I am afraid to approach anyone....................
Maybe if these badges or brackets were in some AS/ASD dialect that only we would know!!!
Then I would like it a lot!
We need to create our own language then we can really smoke some minds. I have an algorithm I use when I need to right something down that I don't want others to necessarily understand, but I don't want to forget. So sometimes papers on my desk look like I am writing to some alien life form... : )
Its a simple one all vowels are numbers and all consonants are used in reverse order and real numbers are reverse order in *(43)* = 34... It goes like this... A=1 B=Z C=Y D=X E=2 and so on...
So "I'm Aspie" would be "3'N 1HL32"... Now you know my secret ASD language I made for myself a very long time ago... Its super simple but no one has ever figured it out yet, that I know of.
OK, I am going to the store and getting a rubber bracelet with 3'N 1HL32 embossed on it!! If anyone asks what it means, I don't answer. If anyone says to me: OMG! I am 3'N 1HL32, too! Then we go and talk about physics or something! HAHAHA
I've seen "Flappy hands are happy hands" bracelets.
I also like the term "Autastic" and think it would look good on pins and apparel.
I still identify as questioning, but even if I were certain I don't think I would want to label myself to outsiders. Labels come with stereotypes and misconceptions. They can also open you up hate and condecension. This goes for more than just autism. I actually bought some pins with the trans and asexual flags on them, as I fall into both categories. Wearing them makes me feel terribly self conscious though, so I hardly ever wear them outside of Pride events. There is also so much more to me than these identifiers so what I choose to present to people is largely dependent upon context.
I've thought about that a few times, but then I can't help but think how the media has portrayed those of us on the spectrum. It seems like there was a period that whenever some tragedy took place, they would say, "[perpetrator] had Asperger's Syndrome" or ". . . was autistic." Having something declaring who we are would be like waving a red flag.
I'm not ashamed of having AS, but until the world understands that BAD PEOPLE do bad things and that having AS has nothing to do with it, I'd just as soon keep it to myself.
I like the idea of subtly acknowledging another aspie but do not want an easily identifiable marker.
Perhaps a particular stim could be a sign...or a stim toy that NTs won't use like the spinners that took over the world.
I actually hate that puzzle as a symbol for ASD....
I like it A LOT! even though it doesn't fit my real situationStraight up aspie, wrong auti to f**K with.
Meltdown coming in 1 more dumb question.

Me too... ASD is a lot more complicated than a puzzle where all the pieces are the same
Sometimes I want a shirt that says "Stop feeding people BS and Cure Neurotypical Ignorance"
Its doesn't say I'm ASD, and most of the general population wouldn't have a clue what it even means...
Maybe instead of slogans and catch phrases... We become like those before us and reach deep inside and do those things that astound those who think we are less.
ONE great act of true intelligence, can silence a planet of condescending voices. One great act, even if in silence, change the perception of the world. It has happened MANY times, and more times than not it was an ND type person who created most all the great things we enjoy today.
Never forget who we really are... In the linage of ND's we are heirs to the masters of greatness. We are the heirs of the movers and shakers, of what shapes we know as our reality (yet not the heirs of the current status quo)... For this is why, even the "experts" cant articulate what is wrong with us...
Its because there has NEVER been anything wrong with us, we just don't fit the dysfunctional status quo, that they created.
The only true expert on the planet is a person who lives the condition being discussed.
Therefore we are the REAL EXPERTS of AS/ASD situations... Be honored, not embarrassed.
Be determined to find the best version of yourself even in our sucky ass depression... Ask it why? Its there trying to tell us something WHAT IS IT? The answer is what it seeks us to go after. Its there telling us we are stuck in a funk for a reason. I know this I live it, but my past is a battle I haven't won just yet...
We think we are in the dark... We forget we are there in search of the light of the greats to push us past what we see as limitations. In every great story, a persons weakness becomes the driving force that created a being that that will never be forgotten.
Reach deep and face the hurt, rant when you need too, but never let that become the version of who we are.
Self Identity + loving the contrast of this reality + knowing your deepest being = the path clearing to the unthinkable...
γνῶθι σεαυτόν = Nosce Te Ipsum = know yourself and become the greatest version of what you are to become...
I have to dream of becoming the greatest version of myself, because I have nothing else left to grasp for.
