Seeking an Evaluation in MA

Hi everyone,

I’m seeking advice on how to get a thorough evaluation following a brief test by my psychiatrist. I have insurance, have been in touch with them and they have told me I can also be reimbursed to a significant extent if I go out of network.

Does anyone have recommendations for where I can be evaluated by someone with experience working with middle aged women? My psychiatrist was not helpful in this regard. And what tests are recommended?

I’m still learning which questions to ask as well.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hello. I assume "MA" means the state of Massachusetts? If so, you're in luck. AANE.ORG is based in MA, I believe and they have a wealth of autism related resources. They also offer a totally free 30 minute phone consult with an autism specialist about any topic related to autism. That would be a perfect opportunity for you to ask the specialist how to go about getting what you're looking for. You're also in luck because they have many face to face offerings in their area such as local support groups, etc. For those outside the MA area, AANE offers zoom groups for anyone to participate in regardless of where they live.

Hi Luca! Great to hear from you! I immediately checked out aane and sent the a message about setting up a call. They are scheduling 3 weeks out and haven’t been in touch with me to schedule yet. But fingers crossed! I had a bad experience with an independent provider but have had luck with an organization called likemind mental health who focus on young adults but have a staff member who has experience with folks my age. The question with them is working with my insurance for reimbursement. Any other suggestions for getting a solid evaluation are welcome!!!!
