Science versus religion and the creation story your thoughts

I believe in what there is evidence for. There is clear evidence for what the beginning of our universe is like. I'm interested in learning even more and I'm up to date with any news on this topic. The attitude to look at evidence only is what has advanced science and technology so far.

I think, however, that science doesn't have to conflict with religion. Science tells us about the material world, religion explores meaning and purpose. It often speaks in metaphors and parallels - in a metaphorical sense or in a way understandable for our ancestors, it does tell how the world was created, but in terms of meaning, not accurate data. The creation of "night and day" means the creation of time, for example, and it didn't last a 24 hour long Earth's day. It's not a literal description, but a metaphorical one.

Also there is the question of spiritual experiences people have - I think it's a part of human experience. And paranormal phenomena - not everything is known to science yet either. In my opinion, ghosts might be suggestion and psychological phenomena, but it doesn't make them not matter from a life experience standpoint. A lot of things that don't "really" exist matter. Impressions. Money. Memories. Experiences. Cultural context. It's also how our minds work that they give a personification to things and phenomena. It's the same as religion by and large, it might be a set of cognitive distortions and feeling things not yet discovered by science, but that don't neccesarily have a soul or free will, but spirituality looks for meanings and influence on us as people, not how it works in very detail.

Nope. I don't believe in any gods. The planet is far older than any human being can comprehend and life has evolved over a VERY VERY long time. (using two "very" doesn't even come close to how old the planet is).

Human beings created stories and myths to explain their surroundings. These myths became religion with a slew of gods. (Now religion is widely used as a means to control human beings but that's another tangent and I won't go there).

I don't believe because it doesn't make sense to me to believe. I don't believe in magic and I don't believe in gods.

I was drawn to what you wrote here vergil96 as with peoples personal spiritual experiences. God speaks about their being an invisible world to our eye and a real world and that is on earth I think so to. May be those who are gifted and sensory might glimpse a bit of it than someone who is not. For I saw a Catholic cross picture and beside the cross were two angels. Perhaps Jesus could have had them invisibly on earth. A bit off topic, but your post made me think of this.

I saw a couple of videos, not sure which one I saw. highlight term limits for bishops. and others stuff. You can tell he is American, bit younger than me.

If you like straight logic read some of Kurt Godel's stuff, more to life then logic. He really f'ed up the math guys He is the best logician, who ever lived Even he was not convinced God does not exist. So trying to convince other with your simple statement is a bit naive. Just stating an opinion, with no weight.

Yeah I've read a bit on Godel's ontological proof of god and ... sorry I don't buy it. It's a mathematical argument used to attempt to prove the existence of a supreme being.

He grew up with religion. Religion is a lot like an accent. You never completely lose it.

Most of my family are atheists, I stayed on the fence. always looking for a convincing argument read the books of the most notable names. What really effected me was watching the great courses on the history of science, boy did I see a lot of holes to bad the religious do not watch these lectures. If they see what I saw they could really get the debate going. feel like I'm giving up a closely held secret, betraying my family. My dad was a real atheist, named after his uncle who as deeply religious leader of a sect He left His home county join my mother to come here to get away from this prick, meeting my second cousin next week her dad left the home country for the same reason My dad hated his first name. Looking forward to meeting my cousin interesting a fourth a cousin keeps records of this family. I guess her grandfathers family, not her surname I'm having fun sorting this out.

I think I'm the only militant atheist in my family. The rest of my family are casual theists - I think it's more comfortable socially for them to just believe and go along with the crowd. I don't care enough to worry about what they think.

Personally I believe that God is the ultimate creator of the universe and all existence within it, but the Biblical story of Genesis is intended as a metaphorical and allegorical story of Creation and not the literal story of the origin of life and the universe.

My whole family is on the fence. My parents, when I was growing up, were weakly religious or "Sunday Catholics". We didn't even go to church every week, but you get the idea. Some of my family members are religious. In the closer family, both grandmas were, especially grandma on my mom's side. She was brought up by a priest and two nuns. I think I'm an atheist, although clearly religion came from somewhere and it's deeply rooted. I don't rationally believe, but I pray sometimes, or more modern version: meditate on a regular basis. It helps me ground my mind and feelings a lot. Organised religion doesn't have a place in my life any more, I don't have a need to go to church. But I was brought up with it and I see the point of it as not against science but dealing with something entirely different.

I'll save you time. Disney doesn't care. Study their library of works, and it's quite everything outside of popular religions. Also, Disney has very specific contractual requirements for anyone and everyone that does even the simplest of employment for them. You will have no IP (intellectual properties) under working for them. Everything you'd conceive is theirs, based alone on the fact that you would be then surrounded by and therefore influence by all of their creations that you see and hear - thus your every creative thought is due to them and belongs to them. You don't just leave working for them and get to have your own IP's again, either. There's a number of years in an exit clause depending on what your level of working for them was and for how long.

@Dagan thank you for your thoughts, I don't know if you ever was of the Alex Mack generation? I think that the Bible has lot of supernatural potential to turn into a film of ITS own type, done respectfully, not way out there and everything like robotic looking etc. Mirabel the movie was quite sci fi as well as she had Superpowers, so they wasn't that far off with that. I am sure have been like Native American and may be had that faith as well. Going way back the likes of the Ten Commandments, I don't know who made them though but they wasn't sci fi at all. I think perhaps a new generation to look at this again through new lenses would be a good thing. I am sure they have lot of people to consult as well for ideas on this, but that was just my take and I did link them the post and my video. I am going watch out of this world again soon.

I will paste what I posted in the blog as it is only short so it is easy to post.

Question
What other potential Sci Fi supernatural potential do you see in the Bible?

Just having fun with the Alex Mack kid spin "supernatural" style as a Christian -Disney for you

Hi everyone, memories of my childhood and early youth give me pleasure at times. I am a child of the 70s and I liked to watch The Secret World of Alex Mack and Out of this World about Evie Ethel Garland in the 90s as a teenager and in my 20s. I was watching these tv series for fun-I was a Christian at that time. By that time I was also given one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit that is mentioned in the Bible. God being so good to me, gave me one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit for protective purposes in my life-which was the Gift of Prophecy-mainly the Gift of Vision.

I went on the hunt at 16 as a Christian hoping for a miracle, but God gave me something for free in that place even more sensory special and not purchasable when I committed to him further. I served in the ministry in the church briefly with these gifts which were verified. I have written about how all this occurred in my life time testimony of my Christian faith which you can find and read on my blog. You can too watch how this came about and it was supernatural and that can be watched at the end of my blog post.

Disney over to you- God’s power can do better-why not a movie or series on God and his majestic power and supernatural strength for this generation. Jesus appeared to be sensory to touch and knew that someone for example had touched his clothes when they obtained healing from him. Being discerning in the spirit I think allowed Jesus being able to hear the plans of evil/the Devil when they were near him and God recently gifted me this recent spiritual ability and gift as well-this is the Gift of Discerning spirits which can be found in the Book of Corinthians in the Bible.

In the Catholic tradition Jesus on the crucifix is also pictured sometimes with angelic beings around him on earth unseen to the unknowing eye. Jesus did though have his own angels which is mentioned in the book of Luke which ministered to him in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus could call on angels too if he chose to. In the Book of Matthew Jesus said- I can call on my Father and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels. Jesus was the Son of God on earth in a mortal body and was fully divine. There is a constant stream of energy in Heaven called the Divine Essence which he could draw on at any time if he wanted to. We to know this as the Holy Spirit. Some of Jesus' miracles like healing being fully divine he could do on the spot, whilst his disciples needed to do praying and fasting to remove malevolent spirits.

I was always a sensory kid and had experiences under 10 that seemed supernatural with my brother. At 17 I mentioned that I was given the gift of the Holy Spirit-Prophecy-vision. I never heard really of a story of someone like me-I read one book of a slightly similar tale at 17 and instantly knew it was true when I picked it up from the library and tried to remember the name later of the book later in life but never could. The woman who wrote the book wrote that she had a light manifestation in her home of the Holy Spirit which led to her having a miracle-and it seemed similar to mine and I was glad to read their account at just 17, two of a kind.

I liked to watch these supernatural sitcoms and dramas, knowing they was not the real thing and having giving prophecy in God’s church-knew the seriousness of the role. It was fun to watch them though and feel not an outsider and out of place and see more people who were a bit more supernatural like me, due to my Father’s grace of the Holy Spirit alone though in my case. I have had interactions with the Holy Spirit who I have trusted throughout my life. I leave my life in the capable hands of my Father and have never asked him for anything spiritual and wouldn’t myself, he has given me enough myself without asking, more than I could have imagined and everyday I start again in grace and following him. All of my Father's gifts are equal to me and suitable for the person given to them for his purposes.

I know a life before and after the administration of the Holy Spirit’s Gifts and the glimmer to another world and how my worldview slightly changed to a better one. I wonder if this is the invisible world versus visible that the Bible speaks of in the Book of Corinthians. God has shown me his invisible world and I have shared that with you on this blog. As an autistic spectrum kid who was a Christian it was a delight. I could ask for no more.

If you want to learn how these supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit are given, you can read my post here on Baptism and the Gifts of the Spirit. Why consider Baptism and the Gifts of the Spirit as a Christian

Am I seeing things or is u-tube pranking us, not familiar with catholic faith or care Agnostic

These I don't think are messages from the Pope directly

I don't know with some people, may be some are trying to help with education or effort for God. This is not the Pope a lot of these things. My dad has been pranked as well. I don't know how they do it. The titles often do not fit the Pope's ideas. My dad listened to one and turned up with frozen salt on my door. I found it on there said by the Pope and everyone else as well. I soon threw it out as something just going round on Youtube. The Pope has a real channel on the Vatican website for videos and messages. I had to study some of these to see if it was an actor or not used to do them.
