Return to Silent Hill

Are you looking forward to this movie? It is based on the storyline to the classic horror video game, Silent Hill 2.

No release date has been confirmed, but it should be out this fall. Here is footage of the actor playing James Sunderland in the scene you have playing out in the beginning of the game, in the restroom at a car park.

This has me feeling a very apprehensive hope. If this does end up being a movie adaptation of the game to the soul of what makes it Silent Hill. Then I'll be glad to watch it. I get director liberties always play a role in this to which it'll obviously not one for one on everything in the game. But as long as the soul of SH2 is intact, then there is little of that can really go wrong.

I know about the RE movie reboot too. And, meh. RE has been put through a ringer. Talk about a franchise famous for both its zombies, and for being milked.

It's looking like Capcom and Konami can do all these soft reboots of their series, then people will say that they have abandoned the primary point of the franchises. LOL. Because RE used to be about viruses, and the associated villains who developed them. While later entries are all over the place with cults, mould, and other things.

I think if SH is to continue, they should keep the games being set in the very place that the games are named after. Because having "Silent Hill" in the title and basing the storylines elsewhere in the world, means it ought to be renamed.

Per Silent Hill - Christophe Gans is back to write and direct, and he's said to have full decision making this time around.

Per Resident Evil being remade - it's Zach Cregger, who surprised everyone after only being known for The Whitest Kids You Know sketch comedy (and Mrs. March film), as he came out of nowhere with the film, Barbarian. Zach's newest film releases in August.... it's called, Weapons. He is said to have full reign on decision making with Resident Evil, and I have to believe it's going to be solid.

I thought the second SH movie was boring. A pity too, as SH3 is one of the best games in the series.

It has a similar vibe to The Last of Us later into the game, once Heather begins to understand her true purpose while seeking revenge for the death of her father, Harry Mason.

Honestly. The second movie came out during the 'Pyramid Head Syndrome' period. Besides the odd insertion of a guy with trigonometry for a face(see Yatzee Croshaw's Silent Hill 2 review for context). There were alot of liberties made, that were not exactly for the better. Plus the overuse of Leonard's Boss Theme. I am happy to hear it in the movie. But not if it's strictly fanservice.

Here is the boss theme for those who need context:
(Bit of a audio disclaimer. This may trigger some people's sensitivities because of the distorted nature of the music.)

But I do agree. SH3 is definitely one of the better games in the original trilogy. It created context, that isn't there in later games, to why places unrelated to Silent Hill are affected. And it has alot to do with who you play as. The mall, the subway, and other early areas.

Now-a-days, things just happen 'just because'.
