I know what the real story is behind adverts like this. I'm not saying what it is, too triggering.I was looking up "Victorian Advertisements" and came upon this ghastly one.
I'm so glad we know better now. Poor babies.

It's just how healthcare was back then. People were listening less to the old midwives and instead were taking patent medicines. Medications were very dangerous back then, and there was very little regulation or registration or doctors or pharmacists.I know what the real story is behind adverts like this. One time I tried 7-Up and milk together just out of curiosity after seeing an old ad like this one. It wasn't too bad, basically it was just milk that was fizzy and tasted like 7-Up. Not something I was crazy about, though. And then not ago I tried Pepsi and milk together because of Lavern and Shirley. It wasn't too bad either, but not great. And when I was younger I made a mixture of root beer and chocolate milk after seeing it in a Dennis the Menace comic strip. That was the best combination, like a root beer float made with chocolate ice cream.
Ice cream and soda or pop as it was called was sold during 1950's as floats, Not something I would be interested in being born in mid fifties. One time I tried 7-Up and milk together just out of curiosity after seeing an old ad like this one.
