Not sure how to be a good Mum to a girl with aspie..

Hi all,

I have a 12 year old daughter with ADD. She is not diagnosed with aspie but I am pretty sure she has a "milder" aspie diagnosis, but she isn't willing to be diagnosed.
Not sure what to do.. I want to help her, but she doesnt want to go to the specialists..
Maybe I just need to go talk to someone there myself? So that I can be of help to her, and maybe change her mind..?
are you is s.e\s.w England or the usa or are you an american living in the uk?:emojiconfused:

Excellent advice in the above posts. The only thing I could say is to find what works for her and to support her the best you can. Sometimes we want to protect those whom we think may be vulnerable, but if you try to put someone in a bubble to prevent them from picking up a scrape or scratch, you may inadvertently set them up for a more serious injury down the road.

Hi,
My 11 years old daughter feels the same. She does not like to be labelled, pathologised and studied according to some medical protocols. She will soon post a video about this on her YouTube channel.

She is home-educated now and loving it.

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I might understand why your daughter might not want to talk about it. I literally cried when I found out I had autism/Asperger's because I was seven and the only thing I "knew" about ASD is that autism=stupid. Obviously, I now know that isn't true, but that still seems to be the most common/accepted perception of us. That may be why your daughter doesn't want to be autistic, whether or not she is.
